hi Jwilson02,
this is off topic but I'm thinking of buying the Dell E1705 with the same LCD you have. Is that monitor glossy and if so is it too reflective outside?
I think I heard dell was going to release a new laptop based on Centrino Pro a.k.a. Santa Rosa around April, but Intel announced Centrino Pro will be released on May 8th. If you can I would wait until then. You'll either be able to buy the current systems cheaper or pickup one of the new ones.
On laptops you are usually stuck with the video card that it comes with. I'm fairly certain without researching your particular model, that you are stuck with that video card on the laptop.
What we need is some laptop motherboard standard so you can buy a case you want and shop around for the mobo and other parts like you can for a desktop. I guess laptops being so small and cramped for space its hard to do something like that. Coboc looks pretty good.
Personally I like...
I'm not thinking of it to be more cost effective. I'm just looking for a better upgrade path. I don't intend on getting another laptop for at least another couple of years since my Dell 600m is running great. But if I were to get another laptop I'd be looking for a better upgrade path simular...
I was just curious if there are any places that sell laptop cases/motherboards etc... So someone could build their own laptop. Does anyone know of such a place?
Dell 600M

ATI 9000M 64MB
Windows XP Pro / VMWare 4 running Mandrake Linux 9.1
Civ 3
Neverwinter Nights and Expansion
BF 1942
Rise of Nations
No problems so far. Runs like a champ.
I think the Intel integrated graphics chip is the thing that is not DX9 Compatible. I don't believe Centrino Technology has anything to do with DX9, which has more to do with the graphics chip.
I would say its pretty bad, your talking almost 10 lbs, with the books you need to carry as well. However this a pretty good idea, I can see times where this might be useful. However since I get about 3 hours with my Dell 600m and most of my classes at most only last 2 hours I don't think that...
here is what I got for the SiSoft Arithmetic CPU test

I couldn't see your multimedia test, it said page not found.
I'm pretty sure we have the same system. Here are a few of my specs 600m, 384mb Ram, 30GB HDD, 64 M9
Adjusting the Screen Brightness and setting the power settings to max battery will get you to 4 hours.
I've only used it on batteries in my classes where I only surfed the net and had word loaded up. After about 1 hour and 15 min I had about 73% battery left. This is with the XP settings at...
How about running that benchmark at the default specs. I'd be interested to know how the D600 compares to the performance of the 600m. I would assume they'd be pretty simular but I'm still curious.
