    Vista Tweak/Hack - Indexing&Searching networked folders

Vista does not include the possibility to add mapped network drives to your default search from the Start Menu, or so I was informed by a Microsoft technitian. He helpfuly pointed out that the locations that the Start Menu's search bar looks in could be modified from the Start Menu's properties...

    Port Troubles

Two possibilities: You haven't opened any other ports, you have to open:6881-6999 tcp and udp in order to accept more connections, this DOES seem like a security hazard but it works great for me. Chances are that you have intrusion detection or something of the sort enabled in either your...

    Ubuntu WLAN-NG Problems!

Ok, now, I've gotten most of my hardware to work on Ubuntu but there are still a few "small" problems. The first of which will be treated in this post. I plugged in my USB wireless adapter (generic) which has a PRISM2 chipset. I attempted to get this to work using NDISWRAPPER but no luck. So...

    Antec Sonata

Personally my sonata's wholes are just filtered with some material from the intake part of an old AC system ... it works very well for dust fintering ... from personal experience blocking the wholes increases case temps which means the rear fan must spin faster which = more noise!
  9. A

you have a CPU fan pushing max 94cfm - but intake/exhaust is only 45cfm

I don't think that really matters, only thing is that you'll probably have negative pressure inside your case causing air to get sucked in through all the cracks in your case. Only option would be to build a duct from the 120mm fan direct to a intake hole which you'd cut into the side of the...

Problems with Logitech MX1000 and Firefox

Actually, what I just realized is that if you DO NOT make Firefox your default browser the forward and back buttons on the MX700, MX900, MX510, MX1000 will work with the factory settings. Once you make it the default browser things stop working. Good luck

    Best Mousemat for MX900

Dunno, but compared to my Intellimouse this mouse is awesome, right now i'm using it on the glossy and somewhat bumpy surface that my desk is made out of .... In what ways do you find the 900 's movement inferior to that of the 700 ?

what's that stuff on my heatsink?

It's probably a thermal pad that comes installed automatically. But If you want just use some distilled alcohol and and knife / cutter to get rid of all the stuff that's on the heatsink now. That way you can use your own paste. Chances are the one you have will perform better.

    Clean Case Wiring

    Antec Sonata LED's

I have a Sonata also, I've personally just installed a little switch to turn the lights on and off. But what I might to in the future is install the same kind of dimmed glass which is used in "soft" light bulbs. It shouldn't be hard to find at any hardware store. If not then get some white...

Submerging your mainboard in dihydrogen oxide

It would work if you could get 100% salt free water (it's the salts that conduct electricity) so like you said it would have to be deionized ... Problem is the water would heap up rapidly and you'd have to have a constant flow ... It would be hard to keep that water clean whilst still being...

    CPU Upgrade Question

My Athlon XP 2400+ (normal) will overclock with a ~3ºc increase to XP2600+ levels. I can go higher because my motherboard won't lock AGP and PCI :'( with my thermoregulated smartfan 2 (Volcano 11+) the temperature doesn't rise, the fan just run ~ 200-400 rpm higher (load)

    Mobile XPs aren't locked right?

Does that mobo lock AGP and PCI speed? If not there's your problem ... you are trying to increase the speed of AGP and PCI at the same time ... that means chaos.

First build and I need a case!

I'm personally running the Antec Sonata with ONE 120mm fan at the rear (the one shipped) temps: CASE: 34ºc CASE: 30ºc CPU: 46ºc (Volcano 11+ @ 2400rpm) HARD DRIVE: 40ºc sounds like high doesn't it ... well... it's not, considering this computer is sitting in a room where the room temperature...

    Two 120mm Case fans

Yes, I know, this is what I've been saying :P Anyway, I corrected myself with the vacume comment, it would just create negative air pressure causing air to get sucked into the case through all the little crevices causing a somewhat larger dust buildup inside the case.

    Cases - Mid-tower question

Antec Sonata (I think that it takes 4 3.5" ... it an awesome case but it's steel and not suited for you as you need more space ... hmm ... lets see, the thing is, the last time I was hunting for cases the most 3.5" slots in a mid-tower was 4 ... but I might be wrong ... I suppose you could...
  33. A

    Two 120mm Case fans

Well personally I'd go with negative pressure and a faster dust build up ... all you have to do is buy a can of pressurized air and using that clean your case ... it's not much of a fuss, maybe 30 minutes if you do it very carefully without missing a spot
  34. A

    Two 120mm Case fans

Ok, one correction, I don't think that you could classify it as a VACUME now that I think about it... it should be refered to as NEGATIVE PRESSURE, inside the case ... because a vacume would mean no air or anything, which obviously is not the case.
  35. A

    Two 120mm Case fans

No, personally I'd put the one with MORE CFM at the back and the lesser of them at the front ... anyway, I doubt that 2 CFM will make that much of a difference so they should work both ways ... but the positive on putting the thermally controlled at the front is that you can then lessen the...
  36. A

    Two 120mm Case fans

DOn't only go by RPM, also see if you can find the CFM ratings for each fan and try to have them equal up in both directions. (sometimes you can have slower moving fans move more air due to better design)

  39. A

    Two 120mm Case fans

You SHOULD technically run both fans at the same speed so that you don't create a vacume inside your case (more going out than coming in) in which case (NPI) you would end up with air getting sucked in through every hole (not good dust wise) ... on the other hand if you have more air getting...

is the sonata a mid or mini tower?

Depends what you consider mini and mid. I personally consider it MID tower ... it's really VERY spacious and really great to work with (using it myself)
