XMP Not Working After Upgrading From 16GB to 32GB

Running four sticks of ram is harder than just two, try manually setting the timing for the ram in the bios and upping the voltage on the v. Dimm and possibly the imc.

Old and Lazy as I am, I pose a question: "What advantages in GPT versus MBR format?

Note the 2 TB limit for MBR is only at the default sector size of Windows, if you increase the sector size MBR can support larger than 2 TB partitions. GPT is more resilient than MBR, which is it's main advantage.

My nearly 10 yr old PC Power & Cooling Silencer 750

It's a quality PSU based on a Seasonic design and unless it fails I would not worry about it. I had one that lasted almost 7 years of mostly 24/7 use before it failed after a power outage.

Docking Stations, bad for sata connectors?

Sata connectors are not very durable and the spec is around 150ish insertions before failure or going out of spec, except for some enterprise drives which have more durable connectors.

    Help: Bad Motherboard?

Based on the symptoms I'd say that it's probably the power supply, but if you can rule that out, then it's most likely the Mother board

    Power Supply Failure Comorbidities

In quality / more modern designs psu failure rarely takes anything else with it, but in the old days it was different, I had a 486 box 180ish watt AT PSU made by Delta (solid server grade psu too) catch on fire and melt most of the PC's motherboard and make a bunch of toxic smoke that took...

how to set up a network

I'd suggest getting 1 48 port switch and 1 24 or 36 port switch depending on how much room you need or may expand. setup a central wireing closet and make all 60 runs to a patch panel in a rack which is centeralized, this should be the most reliable setup and the best performance as everything...

RT-N66U w/ Shibby 1.32 cutting Internet speed in half

Shibby's firmware may do a speed test when it was installed and caped your performance due to QoS if you have it enabled, try checking for any up/dl caps in the firmware or go back to the stock asus / merlin firmware that doesn't have this feature.

    Asus/MSI for 1151 or 2011-v3 ?

for games the 6700k is better for the most part, but for rendering and more heavy duty stuff the x99 6+ core HEDT platform is a better fit, so it really depends on your workload, if you plan to do more editing or "work stuff" than gaming x99 is a better choice, if you plan to game more than z170...

    Intel 2500K + NVIDIA 460GTX Upgrade?

If you want the best performance on you SSD then yes you should keep 50% free for the vast majority of SSD's. Note: this does not mean performance sucks at more than 50% full but you do lose anywhere from 10-30% performance in most cases depending on workload for most models of SSD.

    Magnetic Backplates

Unless your going to use extremely powerful rare earth magnets by your PC's HDD's normal magnets won't do a thing as they are not powerful enough. Is UPS putting out simulated sine wave when AVR is active ?

When AVR is online your still getting the mains power it's just clamped or bumped to lower or higher voltage depending on if the mains power is too high or low. Your UPS is not a pure sine wave on battery power.

    Overclocking Hall of Fame

I'd say the celeron 300/333A's, the pentium 3 550E (most made it to 733 fine), Athlon xp 2500+(& mobile versions too) @2.2ghz+, Athlon 64 4400+ /Opteron 170 @ 2.8ghz+, i7 920, xeon x5650, & the i5 2500k. This would be my current list of cpu hall of fame chips.

Corsair came w/ molex and floppy drive connectors?

the floppy connector was used for lots of stuff besides floppy drives, including zip drives, soundcard bays, fan controllers, agp video cards, & supplemental motherboard power. It doesn't get used for much anymore today tho and 4 pin molex connectors mostly get used for fans now.

Thermaltake water 3.0 extreme vs Cooler Master: Hyper 212 EVO

The TT water 3.0 extreme is a much better cooler than the CM 212 EVO, but it is not as reliable. If you are trying to overclock I'd go with the TT, otherwise the 212 EVO is prolly better over the long haul.

Upgrade or start from scratch *Update: Planning to build*

What to upgrade first i7-920 , HD 5850

I'd suggest getting a Hex core X5650 for cheap along with a HSF to overclock it. a good video card would also be a solid upgrade. If he wants sata 3.0 / 6gbs ports he can always buy a pci-e card like a IBM m1015 / lsi sas2008 based card.

    Newegg's latest and greatest

Crucial MX100 vs. Samsung 850 EVO

Hp makes good network switches and laser printers :) I vote the MX100, I have a 512GB one and it's been solid, it replaced a Crucial C300 256GB ssd I'd had since launch and other than more space and a bit better seq. performance I don't really notice any difference.

    Mixing 2.1v with 1.9v?

try running everything at the slower speed of ddr 1800 5-5-5-18 1.9V and see if it works, you should not try running 1.9v ram at 2.1v, it's a good way to kill it.
