Worth speding the money to buy a high end motheboard?

IMO the chipset and not the MFG or the cost are the key factors. Once you find the chipset then you decide how much you want to spend. Cheap mobos are the $50 and are hit and miss... anythign $80 and up are good boards, provided you picked the chipset right. Above that you are paying for...

Advice wanted: building a high end gaming/entertainment rig

buy 1 stick of 1GB, gettign 2x512 is ass because you cannot upgrade generally. Even if it has 3 slots it usually won't work right. also the 6800GT is much better than anythign ati ahs and it has the shader 3.0. nice looking stuff. ;)

Well, IMO for $4000 you can get a better system. Most games are CPU limited anyway. If you can only have 1 you are better off with dual opeterons than with a SLI IMO... Also 1Gb will be a limiting factor. at least 2GB, there are 2 of everything else. take off: modem, k/m, game pad, floppy...

Word I am not sure RAM speed makes a big difference in gaming. I am not sure extrea ram over 512MB makes a big difference. I wouldnt be surprised if the difference in gaming performance between 512MB of ram at 400MHz add 1GB ram at 500MHz was more than 7%. So I doubt its worth the extra $200...

GF4 ti4200 fan kicked the bucket

The method I used was to unplug the GPU fan and secure an 80mm on it w/ cable ties. An panaflo at 7v works better quieter than any gpu fan for that card.

I have exactly the same setup WRT CPU and MOBO. Mine Chaintech VNF3-250 and 2800+ @ 2.4GHz this is a conservative OC for my chip IMO. The most imposrtant factor on the motherboard is adjusting the Hypertransposrt and adjsuting the ram speed down. I suggest getting the best ram you can...

Be so kind as to recommend some cases?

I am not sure why anyone needs 3 120mm on the front intake. Its jsut a little like overkill especially if you only have 1 HDD. More fans actually make (believe it or not) more noise so you may be better off with just a borring old 1 in - 1 out arrangement. WRT case cooling, there is a point...

Does such a case exist?

A bigger limitation is that you will need a MOBO w/ 4 internal connecotrs for Front USB. Not sure all, or even most have that many. But I am sure there are some. unless you want to reroute from the back to the front I suggest getting an internal hub, not just a redirector.

XP-90. Yikes.

Word. Also the XP-120 is the one that is better than many cheapo water coolders. The XP-90 is about as goods as the Zalman 7000A. The difference is that zalman probabbly works better at the quiet setting. However the Thermalright lets you put a different fan in there if you want to "go crazy"...

Well the way AC work is that it take heat from inside and relases it outside. So you ahve to have a cold compartment (where the PC is located) and a large warmer compartment (open to the air outside).

Best psu considering quietness and 400 >=

Don't hate! According to the guys at SilentPCreview this is the best PSU there is for quiet computing. If I were in the market this one or morelikly the 300W version would be the first PSU I would consider.

I have used enlight before and they are pretty good cases. The PSUs are generally enough for a bsic PC however its godo to get somethign better if you want to O/C. I have got to reccomend that you go with Operandi's chosce tho... the inWin is so great a bargain and the case looks like it has...
