Is a Power State Other Than 0 and 1 Possible?

I thought the disconnected state was just high-z in binary. The trinary I remember hearing about had high, low and negative (1,0,-1). Not sure if its actually used or not. Just remembered hearing about in class when someone asked the obligatory digital with more than 1s and 0s question.

batch scripting

I'm doing a batch script to clean some stuff out of the registry. I need to search in a certain key for a subkey with certain values in it. Its for symantec 9. Ex: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\ has several product keys in it. I need to find one with a value referencing AntiVirus...

dual core vs. single core- Pls stickie

hmmmm. mebbe I'll just go w/ a single dual core opteron and add another later than... =D i like the idea of dedicated memory for each core, but I guess that if pc3200 can feed the beast, its good enough. I always forget about I/O. theres no way I'm dropping cash for SCSI...

dual core vs. single core- Pls stickie

how does true MP match up against dual-core? I'm leaning towards opteron right now, start out w/ a pair of single cores, switch out to dualies later. I would imagine it would be faster w/ each CPU having its own dedicated memory channel, no?

Audigy 2 zs with car audio

you've tried the sonys inside though? the sound quality is going to be crap regardless, but they get a ton louder than in the car. i ran one in my house for a little while off 100w, it tore up my 150W 8" home sub. i know xplod is all crud anyways, i was forced to install it for a good year...

Have you ever heard them side by side? Cabin gain in a car is nothing, you bring any sort of car sub inside and it destroys all else. Most home drivers are smaller (8" and 10"), you don't see many 18"s for this reason. I wouldn't bother with the car audio. Sell the stuff and dig around for a...

System timing is all off

The system runs perfectly fine for the most part. But for example, if I play a 3 minute long song, its audibly stretched out, and takes close to 6mins. Using a DOS wait command takes twice as long as well. But the system runs fine besides that, and has very few errors. This is the wierdest thing...

I believe gentoo's AMD64 fork is rather stable at this point, but I couldn't say for sure.

Getting a 3.06 gHz P4: Do I have to format my HD if I just swap out the cpu?

plain CPU (both w/ HT): plug and play, cpu is near transparent to the OS in this regard CPU + mobo (both w/ HT): if you go about it carefully, you'll just have to reinstall some mobo drivers CPU (w/ or w/o mobo, origional w/o HT): as said above, I believe the kernel is built around 2 cpus...

New Work Laptop...

Close, but not exactly. The Centrino package also includes the chipset (855 I think?). And the P-M isn't ground up much at all, its a hybrid PIII/P4, I'm pretty sure it has the PIIIs pipeline, but thats all I can recall off the top of my head. You were correct on the rest tho :D

Volari Duo CHEATING!!!!

I really don't see nvidia as having 'cheated' per say, an optimization is different from something like this. Futuremark didn't lose any quality, correct? This is just rediculous tho, LOL DISCLAIMER: I'm no fanboy, I just buy w/e is fastest. I have AMD and Intel systems, ATI and nVidia systems.

How to build a laptop

Yeah, as mentioned above, look into a nice video card. I hear the origional fx5800s are real nice for mobile gaming. Also, for the hard drive, check out the atlas series, their qualities make them great for mobility. :beer:

If you were forced to give up your desktop for a laptop which would you buy??

With your budget, I would say go with Dell or IBM. Dell offers some of the best prices (and still have a good quality build/tech support). Their laptops are some of the most refined as well. The tech support issue is supposed to be getting fixed as well, they're 'in-sourcing' most of their tech...

Fry's 108 MBps Wireless Stuff

I don't think that makes sense, they still call it 'g', and all the other companies have 108mbps also. I think it has something to do with full-duplex vs standard half-duplex (assuming wireless usually runs in half). The reason you would have to have the same brands is because theres no standard...

Win 2000 Server DNS Progration

I think 'propogation' is the word, its where the DNS populates its lookup zones...? Or am I totally wrong =s Anyways, In Windows 2000 server, is there something specific I have to do to get it to do so? Or do I just leave it running? Also any suggestions to make it more effecient/faster? Thanks

Why are the clients on network restricted to 10mbits?

if it is windows, try setting the connection speeds manually in network properties, ive had a wierd problem with that a few times...

Manually assigning it through network properties is the only way I can think of. Even running DHCP, if windows cannot find a DHCP server it defaults to some wierd settings. The IP address can be manually assigned, what you are talking about is DHCP. 127.0.0.1 is always localhost, even if you...

thats exactly what I needed to know ScottMac, thanks. The 766 is a little POS, its basically (a last gen) dummed down version of the 806. It isn't a true router, more of a ISDN modem + switch, but I've gotten them for free for each site, and so I am familiar with them. I'm going to switch over...

ah, sry, guess i should have specified better. I am using the serial consule interface, not the RJ45. I do not know how to use a serial interface with one of those. I am still looking on cisco's website. I currently need to work on a pair of 766s and 806s (ISDN modems/routers)

I would suggest a start-up script, except that would also require a working OU. Maybe it isnt propogated (sp and i think i got the word mega-wrong) to your other servers yet?

Win2000 + Extended Partitions

I'm running windows 2000 SP1 (i havent connected this machine to the internet yet, i have to copy some data first) and im trying to set up a 2ndary harddrive with 5 partitions, but apparently you cannot make extended partitions with the disk mngr snap-in?? any ideas? thx

Why dont video cards makers put the HSF on top??

they could mount the stuff on the other side of the video card, but then it might get in the way of the CPU and everything around it. And the specifications as noted.

Eh...MAYBE you can buy cheaper then dell if you load linux, but i dunno 70%? And its not marketing I don't think, marketing is all the other crap they pull. It sucks to have to keep up support for an OS thats 5 years old, think of all the idiots calling in trying to get their radeon9800...

I understand basically how each works, and of course, it would seem to make sense that parallel is faster. But then why are we still using a lot of serial tech, and even releasing new serial technology (SATA, USB)? if this isn't technical enough, my apologies. thanks
