How to enable the hidden Administrator account in Windows 7 and Vista

Turning UAC off in windows 7 is the equivalent to logging in with the hidden admin account. If I really needed to do one or the other I'd just turn UAC off. Turning UAC off is also not recommended by the majority of tech enthusiasts.

You want a DVI-D to go from the video card to your monitors DVI connector. Dual link I believe is only is only required for very high resolutions. A DVI-I cable will most times plug into the video card but not the monitor. A DVI-I male will not plug into a DVI-D female connector.

USB keyboard and mouse wont work at all on a dell XPS400

That is really weird, its usually the other way around. Usually you can't get into the BIOS with a USB keyboard and mouse (legacy support disabled) but you can get into the OS OK. The fix in that case is to reset the BIOS to defaults. I wouldn't think it would make any difference in this case...

Windows Hangs up on install

Go to the drive manufacturers web site, you should be able to download a utility to test the drive for errors. Might want to run memtest too, to rule out a possible bad stick of ram.

Open up your case and make sure everything is clean and you have good air flow. Make sure the video card heatsink is not clogged up with dust and that the cooling fan still works. Even if the card is clean I would remove it and then reseat it back in it's slot to make sure it's good and tight...

Sigh...new computer keeps shutting off.

Make sure the processor fan is working and your processor is not overheating. If you can get into the BIOS got to the section that shows your processor temp and check to see that it is OK. Wouldn't hurt to reset your BIOS to failsafe defaults with the jumper or through the BIOS menu if you can...

OK so a gigabit port is auto sensing? Like a link port on a router? I didn't know that so if true then a cross over cable isn't needed. It would still work though. ;)

Are IDE Cables Reversible??

You can reverse a 40 wire 40 pin ATA 66 IDE cable no problem. You can not reverse an 80 wire 40 pin ATA 100/133 IDE cable. I tried and it didn't work. The two drive connectors are wired different so that cable select will work. If you try to connect the master drive connector to the motherboard...

Is there a way I can install Windows from a harddrive?

You can get an image file from bootdisk.com to make a bootable dos floppy. If that hard drive is formated in NTFS you can't access it from dos.

If you can't change the active partition to C: then my guess is you will have to reinstall windows. I would format the partition(s) during the install so you don't end up with another dual boot setup. That is after you save what you need to your other drive.

Even if you can find the files and copy them to the correct partition it may not be enough. I know in the old dos days coping the system files to drive didn't make it bootable. You had to use the sys C: command to get the files in the correct physical spot on the drive. I think that still holds...

Why don't hard drives spin at other RPM's?

In a hard drive the disk platter has to spin fast enough to keep the heads on a cushon of air. If you slow it down you get a head crash, not a good thing. You don't have the same limitation in an optical drive. Buy changing the speed of the disk you can store more data on the CD. I beleive data...

When i set a static adress on my ethernet, browsers wont connect to the internet..

I use static IP's behind my router. I go my routers status page and get the two DNS server IP's my router gets from my ISP. I also enter my routers IP address as a third DNS entry. Your default gateway will also be your routers IP address.
