I have an update disk. My computer came with Win95 and I updated it to 98SE (I think). I'm just hesitant about reinstalling everything because I don't have all the original discs and software and stuff since it is not a home-built PC. I have a Zip 250 drive, but I don't have the drivers for it...

what could the problem be?

I had a similar problem where I couldn't play any games at all on my machine (see below). After two weeks of searching I raised the CAS latency to 2.5 and the AGP voltage to 1.7 on my BIOS, and I haven't heard from the problem since then. Don't know if its the same error as yours, but its worth...

Well I fixed it. I didn't touch that fan, because I was pretty confident that it wasn't a heat issue after I remembered that the same thing happened when the fan was on. What I did was I went to my BIOS settings on my mobo and set CAS latency to 2.5 and AGP voltage to 1.7. Thats it! It fixed it...

Just ran dxdiag, ran through all the video and sound tests and found no problems anywhere. I'm up to date on my mobo drivers, video display drivers, sound card drivers, and just about every other driver I can think of. Any ideas at all what could be wrong? During times of uncertainty like these...

Yeah I just found another FAQ dealing with the messenger service (duh, should have checked the FAQs more thoroughly I guess). I did the test and sure enough I sent myself my very own pop up ad. Disabled it now and all is well :D

There are a ton of settings in the ATI control panel, but I don't know if screwing around with them will do anything. I'm running my res at 1280x1024, which is the max my monitor supports. Are there any settings I could change in there that might solve my problem?
