    I think your memory is fine either way. If there are errors, memtest will display them like in the screenshot I posted. I haven't heard of anyone needing to go into the config to show errors. If your computer is functioning ok, why worry?

    The "Ez-Plug" should NOT be connected since you already have power being plugged into the video card. Unplug the ez-plug and try. However, I doubt this is the cause of the problem.

    "Re-seat" as in unplug and plug back in again. Look in the manual to check on the 1 stick of ram. By barebones, do like BigLar said and only use CPU, heatsink, memory and video card.

    Actually, taking load off the cpu is one of the things a scsi controller does. Besides, if you stick a good pci-x scsi controller in a regular pci slot, you are crippling the card from running at its full speed. Stick with raptors imo.

    This thread makes my blood hurt. But seriously, to get this thread back on a somewhat productive track, xMax, you should have gone with a 74gb (or 2 in raid 0) raptor instead of 2 36 gb. The 74 gb version beats the 36gb in every benchmark anywhere.

    xMax, shouldn't you be out on a ledge somewhere? You can sit in your room and do all the "philosophy" you want, but until you do research online about what the best cpu is, you're just wasting your and everyone else's time.

    You're making this harder than it is. You said he ordered the recovery cd's. Pop a new hdd in the pavillion and use the recovery cd's. The recovery cd's have windows and any drivers & software he needs on the cd. Problem fixed. I've done this myself on an hp whose hdd went bad.

    AFAIK, there's no way to tell what speed it runs at until you pop it in a motherboard and find out. Also, it's not a 512 stick. I used to know what 8Mx64 meant but I forgot how to tell. I know you definitely don't multiply the numbers though. Since it's single sided, I'd guess either 64 or 128.

    Your best bet would be to find a hole saw and attach it to your drill. Lowe's or Home Depot has hole saws that will work. From memory, 3.5'' hole saw is the size you want for a 92mm fan and 4.5'' is for 120mm.
