Beeps are perfectly normal, yes, it's one for each detected USB device. No way to get rid of them AFAIK (short of using a PS/2 mouse and keyboard. :))

Maybe this has already been discussed elsewhere, but is it my imagination or the CPU Temperatures that both MBMonitor and Asus PC Probe report are much lower than the ones the BIOS setup Hardware Monitor reports? Like 7ºC (13ºF) lower?

If you don't want to buy a PCI ATA RAID card, your only option is to buy one SATA to PATA converter, and connect one of the WDs to the PATA port on the Promise controller and the other to one of the SATA ports also on the Promise controller (via the controller).
