Should I cancel my $50 preorder of Win7?

Even if she doesn't care about Win7 on her computer, you will, when ya have to work on it. I'd still buy it for 50, hang onto it for a bit decide then.

Yeah Win98 upgrade was last for me, same thinking here to regarding old licenses. I guess the drama this brings gives us all a reason to talk more about it which is cool i guess.

Kinda funny when you think about it......every time a new OS comes out the big question is always the same, can an upgrade do a clean install.....Win98 upgrade>WinXP>Vista>Win7. Is it because of THE word "upgrade" gets taken out of text????? " GUESSING that Windows 7 may work the same way...

I would remove old drive install new drive, whether a SSD or standard drive, install Win7Pro 64bit clean on new drive....thats the exact procedure i'll doing to my notebook as soon as my new drive arrives, not SSD :( Being that your current OS is 32bit your only option is a fresh install of...

Windows 7 on primary computer?

I just installed Win7-64bit RC on my system, I installed on seperate drive to keep Vista untouched, I like so far, for the few hours of running i don't wanna go back to Vista. I wouldn't ditch Vista just yet though.

new build

I wasn't thinking cost here, but since you brought it up, you forgot to check current cpu prices, the Q9650 is about 70.00 more than the I7 920 processor. So "about" 100.00 more for an I7 build is pretty much a wash in my mind.

Not to sure what to suggest, I think i would try resetting the BIOS to defaults, i assume your not overclocking, if not, than try booting with your cd and do a repair. Could be a corrupt file. If your thinking possible corrupt windows than do a repair first, if no go set BIOS to default...

Only thing i can suggest trying, boot in safe mode, if you can get in safe mode odds are its a driver/ software issue. this way it would be a start for you to isolate the problem.

What Size Power Supply?

Overheating could be an issue, I'd also look into any BIOS updates that may be related to your problems, update BIOS only if necessary, driver updates for your motherboard or chipset drivers. could try a different sata cable or check to make sure that its secure.

What Size Power Supply?

That PSU should be enough to power that system, possible it may be going bad, I'd write Corsair an email and let them know, should be within 5 year warranty period, see what they say. Otherwise, if you want to stay with a modular PSU than the 620HX is the one you want, the 650 is not modular

"no signal" would be video, odd that you see BIOS screen though before boot, does the system have onboard video that you can try? or what about another video card? could also double check your video cables, possible that you have loose connection....

Regardless of which card you chose, I'd be concerned about that power supply, Earthwatts 500 i assume, may leave you short with video upgrade.

PCI Input Device.....best bet would start in your BIOS and disable anything you are not using, onboard sound, firewire ports, raid and such....my guess is that it is an onboard item that you are overlooking. Maybe that TV tuner card since that could have multiple devices....your going to have to...

I could be wrong but i assume you don't want raid and need to change the setting to IDE. SATA driver should not matter during install, if you were going to set SATA Controller in AHCI mode than you might need a driver F6 before winXP install.....thats why IDE mode is fine for SATA drive and you...

How do I make a restore partition on a hard drive?

I'd be interested in doing something like as well for future builds. I have done a "ghost" image on dvd in the past, i'm sure there are pro's and con's to each, good question Parasitic...was curious how oem's setup partitions for this task, shouldn't be to difficult.
