Perc 5i vs Perc 6i, etc

PERC stands for Poweredge Expandable Raid Controller. All PERC cards do raid. Dell has retired (I believe) the PERC series, and moved to it's H700 series controller.

Earthwatts 430: 30 bucks AR free ship @ the egg

This is an excellent PSU. With this PSU, my current system uses 110watts idle, up to 165watts under heavy load. C2Duo e4300@3.06ghz, 2gb ddr2, 7600gt, 3 HDD's, 1 dvd-rw. A good bit lower than my older seasonic.

I might have misreported the bios vcore, I might be thinking 1.3375 instead of 1.375. I'll doublecheck when I get home this evening. NB gets a bit toasty, but it's not painful to touch. I'll check on the mobo's double-posting this evening as well.

How should I interpret Orthos errors?

Terrific, thanks a ton for the advice. An extra .1v on the memory has allowed my system to run stable on Orthos for about 16 hours now.

Currently, going to Vista will drop your performance (general consensus, I believe). XP64bit, I'm not sure of the current state. Drivers used to be really immature, resulting in performance and compatibility issues. You'll want to verify in advance that ALL of your hardware has vista or xp64...

Best P35 MB for single gpu setup no raid?

I just got my Gigabyte P35-DS3L, which was $95 or so at newegg. OC's are pretty good with it, configurability for OC'ing is superb, I really couldn't ask for more. I've heard reports of people pushing the FSB on this thing upwards of 500mhz, which sounds freaking insane to me. Running...

So, I'm running pretty happy with my current overclock. It's not too extreme, temps are acceptable. E4300 running at 340x9, 1.375v, DDR667@816 4-4-4-12, 2.0v (I think, can't see it in cpu-z), on a Gigabyte P35-DS3L. However, after approximately 9 hours, Orthos failed. How should I figure...

Confused as never.

I totally agree on the Seasonic brand part. However, I would certainly disagree on the 500-600watts for a single videocard. My current setup (Antec Earthwatts 430watt (seasonic OEM), e4300 @ 3.06ghz, 3xHDD, 1x7600gt, 2x1gb DDR667@816 4-4-4-12, 1xDVD-RW) only registers 160watts at maximum load...

OC'd 1.8 intel, its it too hot?

Yeah, I'm not sure what to believe either. I have a brand new C2Duo E4300 running at 9x340 (1.375v). Running orthos small-fft, CoreTemp shows the TJunction at 100, and individual core temp at between 73-77c. I'm finding it hard to believe that the cores are really that warm, since the HSF is...

You're not going to get 30mbps upstream unless the following criteria are met: 1) Your cable provider allows you to operate at that speed (I know of none) 2) Your cable provider runs on DOCSIS 2.0 (I think that's the standard...) ... so, you're limited to whatever your cable company allows...

I have need of a script, or method, whereas a user can change a password on a remote win2k3 server. I know, in winxp pro without fast user switching enabled, it brings up the Lock Computer / Change Password / Shutdown / ETC menu... but many of the people I need to change their password are...

Limiting the size of Network Shares

Yeah, I can't do groups, even from the command line. The only sure-fire way to go about it then is to create a user for each share, and have the clients configured to connect to that share using that user... but it'll prompt them for a password every time they log in. Doh!

I'm trying to add in a Group quota, but Win2k3 is only allowing individual users. I didn't see an option up front to set quotas by folder, but maybe it's a bit further down. Partitioning the drive further isn't an option, but I'll look at disk quotas a but further now.

Limiting the size of Network Shares

I'm trying to set up three shares, all on the same drive. Two of the shares need to be limited to 10gb, while the third needs to be limited to 100gb. The only way I can see doing this is through Disk Quotas, but I don't believe they offer finite enough control over the quotas. Is there any...
