Trying To Get Two 300GB 15K SCSI Drives Working

"Up to 125-MB/s sustained transfer rate" **gasp*** That'll beat out your raptor's any day. Get yourself a pci express SCSI RAID card. If you get a PCI card you won't be able to use the full bandwidth that the drives give. At least you won't get ultra high burst rates.

Is eSATA really hot-swapable?

PSA - LiteOn drive "feature" kills DAE on all new drives.

This kind of crap has been in drives for a long time. Laptop drives do that a lot to keep them quiet and save energy. I have a NEC dvd burner that was locked at 2x, after a firmware hack I was able to rip at 8x, the full speed of the drive. I've burned hundreds of disks since then without issue.

External hdd enclosure and eSATA card

I just picked up an eSATA pcmcia card on ebay for $22. I also bought a IDE to SATA converter ($9). So hopefully I'll have a high bandwidth connector for both IDE and SATA drives on my laptop. I'll post some benchmarks when I get them (should be next week).

There is no average because it depends on how many people are seeding, and what bandwidth those people are seeding at. With a popular torrent I can max out my 3mbit connection. Which is around 350kb/sec.

Remote Desktop

I've tried a few hacks to get around this limitation, but I was never successful. I use VNC if I need to be sure that the user doesn't get kicked out. Otherwise remote desktop seems much faster and has some cooler features than ultra vnc.

Sounds like you're doing it wrong. Are you sure you set them up correctly? Your ISP could be to blame, in which case you cannot do anything besides switch internet providers. Try enabling UPNP and use utorrent. That should be able to do the port mappings automatically for you.
