    Image HDD, automated restore....

    Ghost will create a bootable CD/DVD (or a compatible drive!!! Had problems with that before) and restore from that without requiring a temp partition. I have Ghosted to a DVD-RW and restored very quickly to a new drive from it.

    You may want to have a look at Partimage. It's a Linux based disk imaging tool. I am not sure if it has all the features you're looking for, though.

    LOGIC is another store where you better be sure what you buy is what you want and that it will not break down. They are NOT friendly to returns (unless you're Asian, of course) or exchanges. I buy cables and such from them, but nothing else.

    I use the following quite frequently when editing C code (it will also work with C++, C#, Java, etc): - mark a region (ie. press "m" then "z") - press '=', single-quote, and "z" (or whatever you named the region) This will indent the code to match the context. Very handy when moving code...

    I am not a GNOME expert, however when I have problems like this, I simply move/rename the .gnome directory in my homedir and try again. You'll have to reconfigure all of your GNOME apps, so it might be possible just to adjust/remove the settings for gnome-panel.

    From what I've heard, the copy of Office that you buy from Dell is licensed to the computer it was purchased with. Same goes for the OS. I believe their license agreement will confirm this if you take the time to read it. You might want to call to confirm.

    Yeah, I don't think anywhere it's said that FC1 is 2.6 ready... Where did you get the RPMs from? Did you follow any migration instructions? Simply installing a 2.6 kernel in FC1 won't work.

    Conversely, I have upgraded three RedHat 9 systems (servers) and done a fresh installation on my notebook, and Fedora has worked flawlessly. I have not lost functionality nor introduced those issues that you mention.

    Once I can get the .iso, I will report. Either way, if it is the full, unmodified commercial product, I assure you it's not freely redistributable the same way any other commercial software is not freely redistributable.

    As far as I understand, this is the full commercial version. Lindows is fully allowed to create and sell software, for which the source code is not open source. I am sure the license does not allow for free redistribution of their commercial software.

    I never even bothered with 98 or Me. Went straight from 95 to NT 3.51, NT4, and then Windows 2000. I don't play games so running old apps has never been a concern.

    Get the latest drivers for the SCSI controller, put them on a floppy, boot NT installation from floppy, specify driver disk when prompted, and see if that helps. I often have problems installing NT 4.0 on machines with SCSI

    Thanks, they appear to have changed the process. I previously signed up for the free Developer's Edition and I am sure it wouldn't let me download it without providing a credit card number for the CNR trial.

    I am not going to get into the various reasons why XP is *much* better than 98, but suffice it to say that if the machine is capable of running XP (which yours, of course, are), it should be running it over anything else.     What type of connection are you feeding the card with? If you're using coax, no wonder the picture quality is poor. Use composite or S-Video for better picture quality. Even better, feed the video card an S-Video connection from a high end JVC S-VHS VCR (which has a decent tuner). Garbage...
