Cutting down on crunching

Peter, I totally understand where you're coming from. Same thing happened to me about 2 years ago. Every once in a while I fire up BOINC to see if anything major has changed or if there's anything new. To be honest, the thing that threw me off DC in the end was the lack of real world...

Yes, uni's been over for about 4 years now. Spent 2 years on mandatory state training for becoming a teacher, then I got a job 8km away from our house and I've been there ever since and do not plan on moving again. :) No kids yet, but working on it! :P What about you? Still working on...

Hey Peter, me and my wife are fine, thanks. I got myself a new i7 3930k with 16GB of RAM and a GTX480, so I thought I might as well put it through its paces and to some good use for stress testing. ;)

Thx for all your input guys! :thumbsup: Look like my costs are just about average within the TeAm. Indeed, the $/? we pay for electricity is our way of donating to science and mankind. Just a shame you can't deduct that from taxes, can you?

BOINC and GPU

I'm crunching gpugrid.net, the same as the old ps3net. Was easy to set up, just need a different driver than the one I was using. And the points aren't too bad, either! :evil:

Is it possible to change a computer's BOINC CPU ID?

I see what you mean. The CPU ID in the xml files doesn't seem to be the one you can access via the "my computers" link in BOINC projects. But the <hostid> string in the xml files matches those numbers. Maybe you should rather change that one.

[possible stupid idea] If you manually changed the entry for <host_cpid> in all your BOINC xml files in tje data directory, like client_state.xml, but also the ones in your slots directory, it might do the trick, if you still know your old CPU ID. [/possible stupid idea]

You didn't say what kind of CPU you've got, so we can only guess if 30 hours is ok or nor. But as far as I remember, 30 hours sound ok for an older CPU.
