so i just finished putting together and installing everything for my new build, seems to be running pretty good
but now randomly the computer will lock up and freeze... the image will remain on the monitor and a steady beep or shriek will come from the speakers... any ideas ?

so i am trying to install ubuntu on my new laptop and i get the following error after clicking the install option

i have always loved the quality...
the computer HAD worked great for over a year , and then we lost for afew days, and when the power returned the problem started.
so im alittle unsure which piece of hardware is causing the problem.
the first time i booted that pc after the outage it said "un supported cpu" on startup. a...
when i shutdown my computer it then restarts instead of powering off.
so far i have tryed
- updating my motherboard bios (did not work)
- it restarted on both windows and linux installations
does this sound like a problem with my motherboard ? powersupply ? or possibly something else...

when i originally put it together i had used the stock heatsink (doh i know now) and everything...
so i got a new dell 9300 and im trying to get a uxtheme working
after i replaced the .dll and restarted the computer when i go into my properties i dont see any of the themes in the desktop appearance properties ??
do i need to setup some special folder to drop them in ?

and yet there is like 5gigs still left for my
/windows

everything seems to be working great .. but the GUI looks nuthing like the screen shots on the webpages .. it is in FVwm2 .. how do i switch it over to something else ??

"Load optimal settings" seems to have fixed the problems ..
it still says 1100 on post .. but in bios and in windows it shows up correct ..
also anyone know how to disable the SATA thing that checks every time i start it up

ok i took a break from the processor deal for abit .. assembled everything else .. and took another go at mounting the heatsink (this time with a tad smaller screwdriver .. BINGO !! i did it lol =)
ok i see how it lines up .. and i placed it on top .. but i dont see how this is gona work without doing the "No-No" motion they say is bad .. i sit it down .. clip the none green part over first ? then do the green side ?? it is hard to do with out "pushing down" ...
update .. well i decided to give the arm one more shot and it went down fairly smooth ! everything looks to be in tight .
now to do this heatsink !! eeeek
well my 2500+ barton just arrived and im sticking it in now ..
the processor is in place in the socket but the arm is giving resistance going down.. is this normal ?? i dont want to break it and have to RMA blah blah. (motherboard is Abit NF7-s)
also im alittle scared to mount the heatsink...

i went to turn on my computer after class and everything seemed to fireup but ... no video was being displayed , all LEDs where solid, and no response from cd rom open button..

thanks guys no software needed .. just configure DCHP and your good to go .. we where just alittle confused if we needed the software because when he first got the cable service they where " Comcast@home " and it never came to me that now it is just Comcast and none of the @home crap is needed :)
well my friend is in dire need to reformat his computer .. i told him i would come over and install win2k and all the stuff for him .. but the only thing he cant find is the Comcast CD. so does anyone know how to set it up to work with out the software ? im sure this is actually better so you...
