Practical effect could be multiplayer hacks. It could also be to take down steam (which I'm going to be turning off and recommending to my less computer savvy friends to do the same until some of this gets sorted out). A lot of people don't like steam, or the concept and implications of such a...
Hopefully that will work! However, my 9800pro hasn't had a problem with fastwrites. It's possible that this is just a bad card :frown:
good luck to you sir.
I've heard rumors of high FSB issues with some ATI cards. Nothing consistent, but you might want to try default FSB just to see if that solves the problem. Further, as a personal note, I don't trust driver cleaners. I would just do a format/reinstall of the OS.
I just installed a 9800 pro...
For those of you that don't know, power in the northeast from NJ to northern Ontario (canada) to michigan was either unstable or completely out yesterday starting around 4. I live in upstate new york and we lost power completely until about 3am.
The story as it stands...
In the past, I have done a lot of computer tinkering. I've decided that the cost of the slower processor + faster ram + OC mobo is almost the same as what I'm doing here. Take a 2.4C. It weighs in at approximately $180 dollars, saving me approximately 200. Now, I get an OCer board for...
Well, I'll be heading back to school in a few weeks, so it's time to upgrade! A couple of things first: This is not a machine for overclocking. I want this thing to be stable as a rock for a long time, hence the intel brand mobo and crucial ram. Also, I'd like a reccomendation on the hard...
Well, I was one of those people on the halflife2.net forums that spoke to Valve directly, so I'm going to do what I can to shed some light on this problem. First, I'd like to say that I find it very obnoxious that any time a video issue is raised, it instantly turns in to a ATI vs. NVidia flame...
I simply find this hard to believe, since the DX9 feature have time and time again proven to be MUCH slower on the FX cards than on the Radeon cards...especially the shaders. I don't see the FX cards keeping up with the radeons in next-gen games nearly as well as they're keeping up now (which...
Thanks for beautifying my links Schadenfroh :)
BoomAM: This will only happen if the reviewers release the timedemos they're using. It's not possible to optimize for a specific timedemo if it is not being released. Of course, this would then rely on the credibility of the reviewer because the...
Firstly, I would like to state that it is not my intention to fuel any burning fires. I simply think these are things that should be brought to people's attention. Secondly, I would like to state that it is obvious that none of these reviews that I will be pointing to are perfect. I don't...
So....2.8 or 3.0 seems to be the inner debate here for me. Also, Does anyone have experience with Kingston hyperX 3500? That's another consideration as an alternative to the corsair xms 3500...
tyipengr: I'm 99% sure the asus comes with the gigabit lan. Their 875 board doesn't, but their 865 board does. I was also considering the intel reference board for a while, but the performance just doesn't seem up to snuff when compared with the other canterwood boards, or even the asus...
If he's recommending the abit board of the same chipset, it's the abit IS-7. The only reason I picked the asus board over the abit board is because it seems to me that the asus board simply performs better.
As for the 2.4 overclocking, that was something that I was considering for a long...
See, I'm actually (believe it or not) trying to build this somewhat economically. That being said, the Asus 865 board as fast or faster as pretty much any 875 board, when not taking into account overclocking. Hexus's benches...
My current speakers are videologic sirocco crossfires. klipsch can bite me bum! ;)
Thanks for the tip on the 2.8. I've been thinking about that, and my only concern is that I'm not too interested in doing a lot of overclocking, and I want to get the max longevity out of the system...even in...
Thanks for the tip chefjoe! Googlegear has the hyperx stuff at about 15$ less per stick than the corsair xms3500. Can anyone verify that this is a safe bet with 2x512 at spd settings?
I'm thinking of doing a pretty serious computer overhaul here, so let me know what you think. I'll say what I currently have and what my concerns are at the end.

All right, I've read all of this thread through at least once, and most of it moreso, but I'm still haven't a lot of trouble deciding what the best ram to buy with this board is. I want to get a gig, and I want to be able to run at the spd settings (ala hexus.net). Any suggestions? I'm...
Thanks for all the replies!
The monitor point is a good one...but I really love my LG 915FT+...sooo pretty. Plus, LCDs are still pretty expensive.
My case is a Lian Li PC60, so I think that should suffice.
As far as the recommendations for a 2.4c, is this assuming an overclock? And what...
Hey all. I'm a long time reader, first time poster here. I have been out of the computer hardware loop for a while now, and I'm looking for a bit (read: a LOT) of advice. My current system is an AMD Athlon XP 1700+ running on an epox 8kha+ with 768 megs of ddr 2100 (crucial), and a gf3 ti200...
