Good spot, I did miss the GeForce 7900 GTX out of my list of boards - For info though, yes, it's running at reference clock speed. I didn't use a GeForce 7950 GTX, because they don't exist. ;) I didn't use a GeForce 7950 GX2 because I don't have one, sadly. Nor do I have two GeForce 7900...

That was part of the reasoning, they didn't want to end up with two code bases for the same thing - One CPU-only, and one GPU accelerated. I can sort of see that point of view, but then why not let all ATI users enjoy the CPU-only version until GPU acceleration comes into play, and then stop...

No - I was at ATI's launch briefing for this driver set last week, where it was explicitly and repeatedly stated that the transcoder makes no use of GPU acceleration, all work is done entirely in the CPU. Don't believe that? Then take it up with ATI's multimedia team.

Trust me, the transcoder is totally dependant on the CPU, it doesn't use GPU acceleration at all - That info is straight from the mouths of the people who know at ATI. It's so much faster than most other transcoders because ATI have been working on the 'Cobra' engine which powers Multimedia...

H.264 support is not yet working on the GeForce 7800 series. It wouldn't affect the performance or image quality of DVD decoding tests at all however, as DVD playback utilises the MPEG-2 codec.

Radeon X800 Pro - Doom 3 Catalyst performance

The 6800GT I have is actually my own card, and the X800 Pro has been loaned to me. I also have a variety of other cards, some bought myself and some loaned/given to me as part of my work for Beyond3D. I should also be starting some reviews for another UK-based website shortly, so with any luck...

I would if I had one (or even an X800 Pro of my own I could Mod to 16 pipelines), but sadly the X800 Pro is the best I have. I guess its one of those things I may well reinvestigate if the right boards come my way (Doom 3 will certainly be in my standard benchmarking suite from now on if...

more future proof nvidia 5900 ultra or ati 9800 pro?

Firstly, only MSAA is selectable from within the game itself, you can't specify whether SSAA or MSAA is used. Secondly, performance would have been so poor using SSAA as to be worthless. It isn't like the 5900 had horsepower to spare once AA was enabled.

Albatron GeForceFX 5200 Ultra Review

You'll at least be mentioning that nVidia disables trilinear filering for UT2003 in the text of the review, right? On another technical note, if you are doing any Splinter Cell benchmarks, make sure you don't forget about the AA issues. :)
