help with resolutions in UT!!!!!!!

It's got something to do with UT only supporting a certain number of different resolutions in D3D and those Geforce drivers support a lot of different res right down to 300x400, and UT "runs out" at 1024x768 and doesn't get to 1600x1200, I think :D You could try manually editing the...

Wierd problem with FSAA and Voodoo 5500. Please read!

After re-reading your post I assume that you have 2 V5's in different systems? the first thing that I'd do would be to swap the 2 cards and test with a game, that would quickly show a hardware or system fault.

hmm, I havn't herd of that happening before, something that you can try to find what the problem is to use the fillrate test in 3dmark2000 (or 2001) in 2000 you should get about a 50% reduction going to 2x and around 75% in 4x compared to fastest performance, also try single chip only, it should...

Oh come on!!!! SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME EXACTLY HOW TO REMOVE THIS SUPER ORB!!!!

Assuming it uses the same mounting hardware as the other orbs, you twist it counter clockwise to release the tension on the clips, then just lift it off...

how would Unreal Tournament/Quake 3 run on a?

Ram is the first priority to upgrade, then the vid card, add another 128meg and it'll be sweet. It'll run fine to 800x600, but it will be choppy because of the ram, especially with UT.

cut off the end of a floppy cable?

Yep, just slice it off with a sharp knife right at the plug, I've done it with 80 pin ide cables with no ill effects.

How is the FPS under the new beta D3d driver with S3TC for Unreal Tournament?

Yea I've got the large textures happening on my V5, you really have to use 32bit colour to get the best effect. Oh and you need to use Geometry assist in the driver options to get it to work at all. As far as speed differences go there isn't a whole lot that I could see, I use v-sync at 85hz on...

Is there a big perfomance differnence between Cas 2 and Cas 3 also in cost $$

The difference between cas2 and 3 on my machine is all of 50 3dmarks(4996-5056), or about 5fps in Q3 (102-107fps)

What the hell happened to 3DFX?

Hate to burst your bubble guys but 3dfx *is* dead, the fat lady has sung, the cows have come home, just ask Dave... as much as I would like it to be otherwise... I'll still keep my V5 when I upgrade (probably a nv20, not like I have a choice anymore)it'll be a kickass legacy card.

3dfx technology glossary/Spectre info

Has anyone used the "r_showtris" command in Q3 to see if these drivers actually reduce the amount of hidden geometry that is rendered? or some other developer tool that would show that some kind HSR is taking place? Untill we can actually see evidence of HSR (and not just skipping...

FSAA problem with the Voodoo 5 5500

Regarding the edge lines with FSAA on, I've noticed that it tends to be "activated" as soon as you go through a portal (Q3) For some reason the 22bit post filter doesn't want to work in fastest performance(despite setting the filter to "high" in tools), it works fine in 2x...

Sound Dampening

It's sound damping, not dampening:P Yes I have, it won't increase the temperature if you have adequate cooling, and yes it does reduce the noise, use larger diameter fans running at a slower speed to get "quieter" air flow than smaller ones going flat chat.

DaveB3D states that the V5 is as fast as the GTS...

Ok I did some testing with my V5 and came up with these results; System; p3 600@800 on a bx 192meg cas2 V5@183, latest DX 8 drivers, 1.04 or whatever they are Q3 verson 1.17, default config, standard HQ setting at 1024x768 with the texture slider all the way to the right. refresh...

How worn out is your everglide mousepad?

I made my own mouse pad literally out of a plastic cutting board , it's pretty large, (10"x12") and is made out of a quite hard plastic with a slight texture on it, it's showing very little wear despite the fact that I replaced the feet on my Logitech Gaming mouse with small flat head...

If V5 5500 would of used DDR from jump....

yea that's a good tweek for the V5 as well, especially with the "22bit" 16bit colour it has.

In theory the card would be just as fast in 32bit colour as it is in 16bit, but it would also cost $450+ and would have been delayed even longer than it was...

This has been an interesting discussion, on to the stripey mountain issue; If you do this in real life, won't the mountain look grey from a distance anyway, assuming the stripes are thin enough?

Should I buy speakers that r meant to be used with a stereo or should i opt for PC speakers on my new comp.??

A good set of home speakers will make even the best "pc" speakers sound bad, most people I know plug their computer into their existing home stereo if they have one, A suitable set of sattelite speakers and a home theatre style active sub *will* cost you more than a typical pc system...

UT/S3TC/OpenGL/Windows support now available!!

No, I didn't use those, allthough I do think it would have to be enabled in the V5 drivers for it to work anyway, I've since deleted that UT install though. I'm glad that at least some people can enjoy good performance+great visuals in UT now.

Well I can confirm that it *doesn't* work with a V5, you just get a blank white colour where the S3TC textures should be, all though it is good for finding out what textures are S3TC or not... Allthough that doesn't mean that it *can't* do it, 3dfx would be violating S3's patients it it did...

Is anyone playing games with FSAA enabled?

Homeworld at 1024x768x32 with 4xFSAA (and the game is still cpu limited with a 667 cumine) UT in glide at 1024x768 2xFSAA as well as most other games.

What is the max 3dmark2k score I can hope for w/ a V3 3k agp?

CPU power and current V3 drivers are the main things to have in 3DM2000, before i got my V5 my V3@180 with a cumine 800EB (600E@133 on a BX) I got 3500 at 1024, and 4800 at 640.
