    Bad RAM? Constant BSOD.

I put my old 9800 back in today and it's been running fine ever since, so it's definitely the video card. As far as the cooling goes, I have 3 case fans and it still did all that even with the side panel off. Could it really be overheating that much? I've never had a cooling problem ever...

    Bad RAM? Constant BSOD.

Spoke too soon... it's doing it with each individual pair, and I highly doubt they're both bad. What else could it be? My only other guess is the video card. I'd be tempted to just deal with it if I didn't just spend $200 on upgrades for the thing. Ugh.

    Bad RAM? Constant BSOD.

Well, I'm almost certain it's the RAM now. I just ran an "in-Windows" RAM test that just fills up the free RAM and tests it and it's doing it again, way quicker than before (presumably because I filled it all up by running that program, even though it gave no errors). Here's a screenshot to...

    Bad RAM? Constant BSOD.

I just removed the old modules and left the new ones in to see if it still does it. If it doesn't, I'll do the same with the old ones. Hopefully it will with one and not the other so I know which RAM it is. Hopefully this will solve it once and for all... thanks for the suggestion!

    Bad RAM? Constant BSOD.

Anyone? It's still doing the screen thing, even on a Ubuntu (I'm dual-booting), so it's not Windows. Only other thing I can think is it's something with the video card. I mean, it works fine in games, but I have no other idea what else it could be, especially with the identical screen...

    Bad RAM? Constant BSOD.

Is it possible it might be the power supply and not the memory? Added a new video card at the same time, too, and it works fine without issue. I didn't think much about that until I took a look at my voltage levels, but it would make sense that the RAM is flaking out due to it not getting...

    Bad RAM? Constant BSOD.

I upgraded the RAM of my 5 years old system to give it a few more months of life, and it ran perfectly for the few weeks. Now, a few times a week (especially after resuming the system from standby), it will periodically memory dump with the following screen. Also, before it happens, there are...

Can I transfer XP to another PC? - Not what you think!

Sounds straightforward, right? Retail: Yes, OEM: no. Problem is I have neither! I obtained Windows XP Pro from my University who, rather than just get Microsoft Educational software, got a volume license for their students. I'm certainly not complaining as it means the university gives...

Resume from standby causes high-pitched tone from speakers.

That was it! I went through all my running processes and killed 'em one-by-one to see if was one of them, and it turns out it was that simple. D'oh! Thanks!

Resume from standby causes high-pitched tone from speakers.

My system had been working flawlessly for a few months, until recently. Now, whenever I resume the system from standby (in Windows XP, btw), an extremely high-pitched tone plays through the speakers. The weird thing is, other sounds play normally (like music, system sounds, etc). But the...

Are Microsoft student OSes OEM, or can I move them to another system?

Just curious since I just upgraded one of my systems to Vista and would like to use the old XP CD key and all that on another system. Can I do this, or does "student" software have the same restriction as OEM in that I can only ever use it on the system I originally installed it on?

Vista Media Center refuses to play DVDs.

Will a 64-bit XP key work on a 32-bit XP install?

I received both XP 32-bit and XP 64-bit from my university, and I was wondering if it would be possible to use the 64-bit key to install the 32-bit version, since I have no use for the 64-bit version. They're both "university software" CDs (they're not different types like OEM and retail and...

    Too many Windows activations?

Argh! I've been having a lot of problems with my system recently and it's required me to keep reformatting and re-activating to diagnose the problem (since it's rather sporadic, so it takes a bit of use to see any problems pop up). Just put in another HD today that I know works, and I go to...

Confusing "beep" codes on P4P800 mobo (AMI BIOS)

Ok, now this is interesting. Just turned it on again and it booted, but told me the CMOS time/date are incorrect, which is strange. Meh. I'm convinced it's the mobo and it's on it's last leg. It's definitely not the hard drives, because I've swapped them, ran extensive test, etc. I...

Confusing "beep" codes on P4P800 mobo (AMI BIOS)

My computer has been wonky for the past few months now. I decided to give it another reformat to see if it might help, and when trying to install Windows the system would either blue screen or say it couldn't find any hard drives. Most of my problems had been hard drive related, so it wasn't...

I've tried all I can think of to fix this, so maybe someone here can help. The past few months, my system drive has been constantly spinning up and down at random intervals, especially under load. It basically spins down, clicks, spins up, clicks, then repeats, seemingly at random. Every...

Lexar 4gb pro duo, $39.99 free ship, Frys

Just got mine a few minutes ago and popped it in my Sony DSC-W55. So far, it works great. Can take a whopping 1100 pictures at 7mp, 3 hours of video at 640x480std and about an hour of video at 640x480hq. Looks like you're out of luck if you didn't already order, though... price has gone...

Multiple system failures in one day... I have no idea what's wrong.

Just ran a virus scan and it didn't pick up anything. It's very weird. The taskbar also goes crazy (switches from the standard theme to the classic theme whenever I click on it). Also, backing up all my classwork to a flash drive took like 20 minutes when it used to take less than a minute...

A few small nicks on heatsink... will it really affect performance?

I managed to fit my old Zalman into this case. The screwless clips popped off easily and I had some screws that fit. Much quieter and it's already running around 36-37 idle w/ Arctic Silver, which is what the other HSF did after 3 weeks of burn-in. Anyways, thanks for the help.

A few small nicks on heatsink... will it really affect performance?

My current HSF is some cheap CompUSA (yeah, I know) thing. It's copper but the fan vibrates a lot and is loud. It keeps it cool (about 36 idle w/ crap silicone grease) but is just too loud. I had a Zalman HSF before that in my old case. I couldn't use it in my new case though since the fan...

A few small nicks on heatsink... will it really affect performance?

I'm switching back to my stock P4 heatsink since the one I have now is extremely loud and almost unbearable. It's the standard P4 one with a copper core right over the die and aluminum fins surrounding is. The few small nicks and scratches are on the copper part, unfortunately. If I put...

Will all of this fit in a mid ATX case?

My setup is about 3 years old now and I want to move it to a smaller case. It's currently in a full ATX tower, but it is a little too big for my tastes and, since I haven't done any computer tinkering in a while, I kind of want to move it to a smaller case. Specs are as follows: Full ATX...

Mongoose Full Suspension Mens Bike 149+40 shipping

I have a $350 Specialized HotRock front suspension bike... it's nothing special, but it's a lot nicer than any bike you would buy from a sporting goods store. Mongoose was nearly equivalent to Trek 10 or so years ago, but they got into the "budget" bikes and never really looked back...

    Wireless signal acting VERY strange.

I just recently set up a 802.11g network for about 10 people to connect to. I'm having some problems, however. First off, people were having really low signals, despite being relatively close to the router. I remided this (for the most part) by buying a range extender. Now the signal...

What's the smallest case I could use for this setup?

Yeah, it's a Northwood (it's a 2 year old system) . I was under the impression that idling over 40C was bad, but I guess I was wrong. Guess it makes sense, though... I always wondered how those Shuttles managed to cram all of that stuff into such a tight space. Maybe I'll give a mid-tower...
