I've considered that route, though I've never lapped a CPU before, and I'm worried I'd damage it. I can't imagine that even the most misshapen CPU would cause temperatures to be this bad - or am I incorrect with that assumption? I mean, I'm getting worse temperatures than what other people get...

Well, I have a HAF 932, so if there's any more airflow to be had in this case, I don't know where to get it. There's 2 240mm intake fans, 2 240mm exhaust. Also, I know SLI causes more heat than usual, but everywhere I read people with idle temps at 40-50, and definitely not 60C.

I suppose I didn't think about the hardware enough - it seems so obvious now, though. And yes, I'm aware of the cost :D. I'm still going to probably use my step-up on both my 260s to two 285s.

Just as chizow said, when you have very high FPS, you'll hear that whining sound. While Crysis loads, it is running at "999 fps."

Vcore fluctuation on i7

Do you have any of the halt states or similar power-saving features enabled? I'm sure if cores 1-3 go idle, core 0 will take less power, while when under load, the power usage will go up.

Seems like by pushing my QPI/DRAM to 1.35 and VCORE to 1.325, I am so far 30 minutes stable in Prime95 @ 3.8 GHz. Temp is at 78C right now. Crossing my fingers and hoping the temps don't go too much higher while staying stable.

Well, my 1366 mounting bracket came in yesterday for my TRUE, so I got to work. After I got my box back together, with some fiddling, it seems I can get 3.6 GHz rock solid stable for at least an hour of Prime95 (didn't have time for a full night, as I was trying to find my upper limit)...

What cooling solution do you have on your i7? Those temperatures are ridiculously high, and if you're running those temperatures consistently, your processor is dead in a few weeks.

Thing is, my in-game and benchmarking numbers are all great. Almost 19k in Futuremark (the 3D portion). The sluggish performance seems almost entirely isolated to Aero. But if removing one card fixes it... what does that mean? The card obviously is working fine due to my in-game performance.

Of course, I'll enjoy whatever my upgrade ends up being. However, if the GTX 295 turns out to be less than $600 and has better benchmarks, I have a clear and easy way to upgrade it (return the unused 260, step-up to the 295). Do you really think I'd be better off just keeping the two 260s?

ID reveals new game tech at WWDC

As long as Carmack refuses to support or program for DirectX, his engines will never again be as popular as his heyday of Quake 2 and 3. He just has to work that much harder in order to get the feature sets that DirectX is touting. He's a stubborn bastard, though. RIP iD engines.

Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear used to discard entire clips if you hit reload (if I remember correctly). In Rainbow Six Vegas, guns reload with their clip size+1 to account for the chambered bullet.
