I have a 256gb M4 in my laptop (Thinkpad T420) and I've been using Samsung 850 EVO and 850 Pro drives by the dozen in the T420 and T430 laptops I build for people. I notice a significant difference with the Samsung drives personally and if I were running out of space on my M4, that's what I'd...
I have a friend whose iMac we upgraded to a 1tb Samsung 840 EVO around 4 months ago. However, recently she's dealing with a significant slowdown. I've upgraded most of the other 840 EVO's I've set up over the last few years to the new firmware but this is the first Mac I've had to do. I see that...
This has been my experience too with phone support. I guess I shouldn't complain though because it gets me a lot of business as a computer tech. However this crap of not including an Ethernet jack? UGH! Really hate the thinness craze!
I echo what's already been said here with regards to the build quality being awesome. The screens suck badly if you don't get an IPS model but that seems true across most business-class laptops in my experience. Many people say that you can buy lots of cheap laptops for what a Thinkpad costs but...
I've built several hundred computers since 2002. Starting in 2006 I started seeing more and more problems with the AMD systems and by 2008 I stopped using their CPU's in any computer I built. Of those computers, 3x of the Intel boxes have died (motherboard failure, PSU, etc. but the chips were...
L - Cheaper end of things
T - Best balance for a business-class laptop with good build quality
W - Basically a T series with a professional series graphics card for CAD.
A little over-simplified but it pretty much says it. The T series is my go-to line for anything not ultra-portable. In the...
Thanks for the link. Been running into Flash Player causing this issue for a while now. It's intermittent but I'm hopeful this will take care of it. I appreciate the help.
Ok here's one that has me stumped. I have a file that a customer of mine sent and she says it reads as gibberish. I open it and it reads just fine and I can print it. She's using Office 2007 and I'm using Office 2010. Here's where things get really odd:
If I try to change the font in the text...
Stop 0x0000007B errors, when the drive is not damaged, are usually just disc controller driver errors. The advice above for using an Ultimate Boot CD for Windows is by far the fastest method to get you up and running here and very significantly better than repair install. Repair installs...
Personally I would suggest getting a lightly-used T/W/X-series Thinkpad with a 3 year warranty. You can usually save a few hundred bucks and you'll get a far better build quality than any of the consumer HP laptops, including the Envy line. The HP Elitebooks are pretty good though if you can...
The Thinkpad T410/420 and such are about the best built computers I've ever come across (with the exception of the T60 because the screen is the best I've seen). I repair dozens of Thinkpads for resale and I've usually been able to take care of any creeks like you describe with a little bit of...
If you want really decent ergonomics, a Thinkpad T420/T520 would do the trick quite nicely. I recently had a friend who picked up an HP Envy 17 and I don't think I've ever hated a laptop's ergonomics more. Its edge was so sharp we referred to it as a suicide palm rest.
Next gen comes out next month. Worth the wait I say:

I have a T400S and love it by the way...
Yeah I am going to switch to using Intel onboard RAID for these machines. These machines are file servers plain and simple. No heavy lifting. They simply serve files and back up my customers' drives. It should work great for what I need!
Yeah I did do that. Each disk passed a full format and test before I put them in the RAID. Here's where it gets weird: they are doing almost 2-3 times better on Intel Matrix RAID now. I didn't realize how much better the ICH10R RAID was! I think I'm just going to switch to that and to heck...
I have been using an LSI MegaRAID 8308ELP card in my "server" box for the last 3 years or so with 6x 320gb Seagate 7200.10 drives in a RAID 5. It worked ok giving me speeds around 180mb/s to 200mb/s with peaks around 220mb/s or so. I needed more space so I picked up 8 HITACHI Deskstar 7K1000.C...
Ok, here's an issue that has been perplexing me for a while now. I'm going to lay out all the details so please bear with me if you can... My file server has been randomly crashing with Stop codes ranging from Stop 0x00000050, Stop 0x0000008E, and most recently Stop 0x00000024. Below is the...
Ok, I thought people were going to think I was weird with this one but after reading the above, it's actually pretty normal I guess... For me, it's peas and tuna. Takes 3 minutes to do in the microwave. Just grab some frozen peas, add water and cook em for 2 mins and then drain the water...
