need help building a $600-700 system

A friend of mine needs some help building a $600-700 system, he already has some RAM (512 DDR 2100) its not the fastest but he plans on upgrading it latter. he also has a PS. He wants an AMD system, and because im not up on all the AMD stuff, i need some recomensdations on what I should tell him...

whole new system in spring of 2004 :) untill then maybe a DX9 video card after half-life 2 comes out.

Ram.. How much do i REALLY NEED

get a Gig, you will be happy with it, i am btw, i notice a bit diffrence in BF1942 with a gig compaired to others that dont, the computers that have a gig do better and are able to run with more bots before lag gets too bad over the lan. i have also made BF1942 use more then a gig of RAM, just...

I think the ram bit the dust

If you ran a Mem tester then you need to pull one of the sticks and run the system for a while to see if it was that stick that went bad, then try it with the other stick, just to make sure that it isnt both sticks that went bad.

Would RAM benefit my system?

yes, you would notice a diffrence going to 512 if you play games or do anything that makes the computer really work. You only need 1 GB if you are going to be gamming, but make sure that your board can handdle 1GB. some cant.

Is Audigy 2 worth replacing Asus onboard SoundMax ADI 1985 audio chip?

yes, the Audigy 2 is better, plus it has some fun things like the EAX console. :) its fun hearing Alvin and the Chipmunks play Kryptonite by 3 doors down :)

WD 1200JB - the new "DeathStar"??

I have WD 120GB drives, they have worked fine, I have them for over a year. amd they are in a RAID 0 configuation. No problems yets. :)

Would more than 2 keys work at once on a USB keyboard.

I have had a smilliar porblem, it is the keyboard, usally. Ctrl-Alt-Del works but any other mulit-key combos, most dont work. i know that it can be a real pain in most games. get a different keyboard and see if the problem is still there.

Audigy 2 not working

when it locks up, the mouse does stop working. I never had any pop up's when i installed the card. and i was using the same CD, but even if there was a pop up, it would still freeze before he got a chance to hit alt-tab. The freezing is happing during the "updating registery" part of the...

it does have on board sound, and it works. the soundbaster live is a better though. the Audigy 2 is the only card that has not worked for him. We are thinking that his MOBO might be starting to Die on us. but that is not a big deal, he was planing to get a new system anyway. we were just trying...

Ways to improve cell reception?

I have a cheap $50 Cell phone form AT&T and it works in places where my borthers $110 Cell doesnt. hehe, just dont break the Antenna. I just broke mine. Tip dont ride Carnaval rides with your cell in your pocket it can break the Antenna.

Audigy 2 not working

My brother a few months back baught a Audigy 2 sound card, but when he put it in his computer it didnt work. it would get to about 95% complete the freeze up. After trying for about a week to get this card working including putting it in my computer to make sure the card worked (and it does)...

car computer power supply

GO to Raido Shack and get a 140W DC -> AC Power Inverter. I can run a 18" TV a PS2 and a laptop all at the same time. with mine. Shouldnt be a Problem with a computer and it wont shut off with the car because it runs off the cig lighter. it will Run 24/7 or untill the battery dies. :)

200 bucks for college

Screen shaking on monitor?

degauss it, that can help at times, check yor refresh rate, and move any speakers that could be close to it. i know i had a pair of speakers that would make my monitor act funny at times when they got too close

I want to use 1 set of speakers for 2 computers on a KVM switch

you can also go from one sound card to the other one by using the line in port on one of the cards. i have done this in the past between a laptop and a PC.

My PC's Performance?

I have seen BF1942 run on a number of systems, i network game it all the time. over 512 in RAM works Great, My brother has 640 in RAM and it works great but real preformce come at the 1GB level, if you are having trouble with BF try lowering the bots when you higher the screen size, it will help...

Silent PC countermeasures

silent PC are nice at times, but when the up stairs of my house reaches 90+ degrees in the summer due to the AC not working well, it is nice to reach over and punp the fan contolers up to high and let the 3 80mm and 1 90mm Tornados fly and cool down the system. Besides if fun when some one walk...

Controller Card vs. Onboard

Will 2GB of RAM work in the Asus P4C800 Deluxe?

Sorry, but I must reboot now

PCI fans are nice i have a few. The only problem with them is that they can stop working due to dust. If you have a dusty computer or dust is a problem i dont recomend them. they can make a nice diffrence in the temp of the computer.

Building a new computer

though i dont know much about the Aopen drives. I have read alot about lie-on drive and even have one. I have a Lite-on DVD Drive and it works great it is was just a few buckes more that the Aopen, if that.

A few questions about a imminant upgrade

The Asus P4P800 is a good bord, as for the RAM im not 100% sure i have the P4C bord and it works fine with my Corriar memory after a little tweeking of the voltage and a litttle in the timmings. As for Windows when you replace the Mobo it might not want to boot into windows. just reistall it...
