    Common Dell problem. We have 3 that does the same thing. They don't all do that. I would see if Dell will take the unit back and replace it.

    brightness adjustment is embedded in the function keys. I think it is function+F12 or something.

    most people can't handle an instantaneous response from a gadget. The menu updates takes 1/2 second, so do scrolling. can you imaging if scrolling is instantaneous? you actually can't use the thing because you can nver get to the point you want.

    Wrong!! While you do know a lot about batteries and is evident from your long post. This comment about they being fully charged is wrong. All batteies will lose some charge if unused over time. It may take months, but it will happen. Just like your car battery will die if you left the car...

    The troubles of dual monitors

    ATI Catalyst doesn't like to have 2 different setups. Even though the company website satets that it will support, my experience is that it is unstable and will revert back to "same" settings after a restart. I had to keep resetting the setting, but now I just used 2 of the same LCD panels....
