webdave, thanks for the link, I hope this works on a ceiling as well as a wall, this stuff is old, brittle and covered in 3 or 4 layers or paint.

late update for those that care :) Jest3r hit it on the head, I have to assume: I ordered a Gigabyte board, that matched my own , system booted right up, and has been running fine since last Saturday. I have to assume the Intels had an older bios with no support for an 8400 dual core.

sounds to me like a caffeine attack- I started having them around 10 years ago, and have to watch my caffeine intake, now. First time it happened to me, I had just gone to bed, and my legs started violently shaking by themselves.

that'll suck if that's all it is, and it makes sense at this point, however we are both coming from socket 478 boards........... since an e8400 is considered "old" at this point, you'd think the bios would be able to handle them ok.
