Replace ATI video card in damaged VAIO laptop

Replace ATI video card in damaged VAIO laptop

My laptop took a couple foot drop today and I've traced the bluescreen I am now getting back to the video card. With the ATI drivers installed, it BSODs on boot, but without them, I can boot up just fine. Everything else is working fine, but the graphic limitations might get rather annoying...

What do you use your PDA for?

MP3 player (music & podcasts), internet, and ability to watch movies on flights. From my experience (have both a Axim & a iPaq, and the Axim is hands down better. You can find some pretty good axim related forums at www.aximsite.com

I host about 5 domains with 1and1 and pay $10/month so I'm really looking into this. Am I correct that dreamhost limits you to 3 domains with the $9/year plan? Still saves me a bunch of money to switch, but just curious.

laptops are suddenly cheaper this year

LOL... it's one thing to say the wrong thing, it's another thing to link to it. Moore's law doesn't even directly explain the price decrease, all it says (simply put) is that computers double in speed every 18 months.

Partition tables are jacked

Ran Active Partition Recovery which is supposed to restore any lost partition info, and all that found was a 10 MB partition, and that's it. Going to do a full scan with GetDataBack and just start copying files I guess. Seems like if I could just convert this whole partition to NTFS I could...

Running GetDataBack now and it is finding a lot of things , some are showing up as hex values, others as filenames. So the data appears to be there, any ideas on just reconstructing the partition tables?

PDA options

From the looks of it, you definitley have to go with a Microsoft based PDA. That leaves you with Asus, Dell, and HP. I have no experience with the Asus PDAs, but the Dell Axims and the HP iPaqs I do. IMO, the Axims are far better; better support, less expensive. Based on that I'd reccommend...

IMO, I don't see the point in getting a PCI-E Dell. Without looking up prices, I don't think the performance justifies the cost and you'll have to upgrade in two years anyways. Once again, without looking up prices, I gotta imagine the 865 Dell prices have to be dropping like rocks.

Dual-LAN ports, what's the point?

They've been on server boards for years but for whatever reason, they're starting to show up on the high-end gaming/performance 925 boards. I'm sure there's some reason for this, but just can't think of a good reason to have dual-lan ports. Anyone wanna shed some light on this?

If money was no option? I dunno. I'm sure I could find a $5,000 PDA like device. If you stick with a traditional PDA, somewhere between $300-$700, you'd go with either Asus, HP Ipaq, or a Dell Axim. I have an Axim x30 and I love it. I went with it over an iPaq because it is much less...

Is 64 worth it?

Don't know who told you they weren't all they're cracked up to be or that you might have problems with XP (Home and Pro are essentially the same), but it's not true. P4's excel at multitasking & most media encoding, but that is about it. AMDs aren't bad at those things, but 64s beat out...
