I, like most of the other people who have gotten LCDs, probably won't be going back to CRT. I game regularly and I don't have any problems. I have a Viewsonic VP121B btw. The colors maybe aren't as rich as a CRTs, but the crispness more than makes up for it. The pros outweigh the cons imo.
How does that affect your game performance? Your monitor can't display above a certain fps depending on the refresh rate anyways. Even if you're getting 200 fps in the game, yet your refresh rate is only 60hz, you're effectively seeing only 60fps.
Does newegg make those parts? No. They simply buy them and then sell them. Blame the manufacturers for defects. Probably the reason you see people who have had problems ordered from newegg is because newegg is like one of the biggest places to get parts.
The tradeoff of lower response time for less colors is probably worth it. You really don't notice the lower number of colors that much and I'd much rather have that than a lot of ghosting.
Your comparison is bad mainly because when the gun is redrawing each thing there's a point in which the picture goes away. This causes the flicker effect on lower refresh rates as your brain can notice it better. Run a 60hz refresh rate on a LCD and you won't notice any flicker whatsoever...
Hi my IC7 had its Northbridge fan fall off. I've still been using it a bit without any type of cooling. So far it's been just as stable as it always. I think I did get close to frying the NB at one point when it smelled like burning in the case. I shut it off and let it sit for awhile. Still...
My guess is that the IC7s didn't have the clips soldered on good enough since the old fan didn't exert as much pressure as the new one. I'm considerding a MAX3 now. I'm hoping these don't have a problem. I haven't seen anyone on the Abit forums with this problem on the MAX3. Anyone have a MAX3...
Whelp my NB fan just popped off last night :( What a pain in the arse. Think I'll get a MAX3 if the problem isn't on that board or go with Asus, then just RMA the IC7 and sell the replacement.
That's an ignorant statement gorillaman. After moving to LCD from CRT I have not regretted it one bit. Yes of course LCD's have their downsides but I think the pluses outweigh the minuses. You're wrong on some parts. Brightness is much better on an LCD. Also refresh rates don't matter on LCDs...
Of course a bigger monitor is always bigger but my VP171b seems just fine at 1280x1024. It's a 16ms monitor and it's great. No ghosting on even intense fps games.
I don't quite understand it myself but I've been told that triple-buffering can significantly increase your fps if you're running with vsync on if it drops below your max fps.
I'm not too worried about wrapping them, I'd just like to know if there's some sort of systematic way of getting everything setup and in good shape. If anything maybe some pics of other people's setups with a neat inside would help me out.
It sounds like there are some problems with the new BIOS and using a RAID array. I'm gonna hold off until I see some more results of other people and I'm ready to reformat this mofo. For now, if it ain't broke, don't fix it :).
On a different topic, I recieved my new NB HSF today and installed...
Well I built a computer a few weeks ago and I'm gonna go back in it tommorrow to add a cold cathode I got. I had gotten the cables inside pretty organized but there's room for improvement. Is there any kind of tutorials on how to get keep cables neat or can anyone share any tips? FYI I also use...
I have the Viewsonic listed above and I think it's an excellent gaming monitor. It's a tad bit more expensive than some of the other similar ones though.
Never heard of a 1765. All I can say though, is that I have a Viewsonic VP171B and I'm VERY happy with it. I play FPS games like UT2K3 and Serious Sam and I have yet to notice any major ghosting or blur.
I just leave it on all the time. If I have it off I notice quite a bit of screen tearing. Besides, 60 fps (though I think it should be 70 since my refresh rate is set to 70hz) looks damn smooth to me. I don't really notice an fps drop until about 45fps or so.
Apparently these boards measure the temp too high so you probably don't need to get bent out of shape it if seems higher than what it should be. I get 48-53c idle and when I run Prime95 it goes up to about 60c. I'm not sure if I can consider that load or not :\
Have you tried bumping your RAM voltage above default? While my RAM (Corsair TwinX-1024 3200LL) ran okay at stock speeds on default settings I couldn't turn on any PAT features or lower timings at all. Then I bumped my RAM voltage up a bit and I could start squeezing more juice out of it...
Well I'm not too worried about spending 5 bucks and buying the new HSF but I would like to know if I could RMA my board and get one that has the sound corrected on it. And if they ever get a new revision, do you think I'd be able to get a replacement of that then?
Well I just got a new computer with a Viewsonic VP171B and I must say I'm very happy. It's very crisp and clear. It looks great. The only downside is that it doesn't display many colors. It's kinda weird because I notice this more while surfing then when I'm playing a colorful game like Serious...
It's a Sunday and I can't get a hold of Abit on the phone, but are they replacing and fixing the NB fan and sound problems that people are having? If so, I might just consider doing this instead of getting a new mobo. I dunno.
Okay, I just got a IC7 with a P4 3.0ghz but I've decided I want to return the IC7 because the sound is horrible and the NB fan is driving me insane. That means I've got to find another good mobo. I don't want to read through 16 pages of this thread so I'll just ask these few questions.
How big...
*sigh* Well I think I've decided I'm going to RMA this board. The sound is just horrible. I don't approve of the way Abit has handled the situation either, or lack of handling the situation. Also after using it awhile the NB fan just gives me a killer headache with it's high-pitched noise.
