Video card driver temporarily corrupt?

I would just see if there are new drivers for the video card and try to install them. Should fix the problem you are having.

need help, can't format HD on old gateway PC

Gateway actually has a program called gwscan that writes Zero's to the HDD, I use to work for them but not anymore. But now I would say that I still use that program on about a weekly basis, doesn't matter what kind of drive it is either.

What programs are you running in the background and did this happen before you upgraded to SP3? Is this outlook or Outlook express? and Does it ever happen with any other program?

Chances of this drive dying? (WD Clicking noise)

If it is clicking at all unless it just trashing the HD , I would RMA it before it goes totally out on you.

former/current Epox 8k5a2+ owners: max fsb?

I keep mine at 166 too with a 2000+ and 2700 memory. It's fast enough for me so haven't tried to max it out.

How to speed up Dell PII 266?

You could always upgrade for CPU cheaply. I have a forum with a bunch of PII CPU's in it.

Advice needed for buying mechanic's hand tools.

Craftsman tools are great, I've had to replace several of them and everytime I have just walked in and handed it to the clerk and they borught me another on eno problems, no hassles.

Hard drive is slowly dieing !! help please

you can do "dir /w /p" that will show it "/w - wide" and "/p - page". after each page you hit the space bar or any key to go to the next page.

I work for a computer shop and I know we order most of our stuff from Newegg. We also have a vendor's acount with Ingram and Newegg is consistantly $2-3 cheaper than our wholesseller.

You should be able to get them at any decent electronics shop. I would desolder them and take them to a shop so they know exactly what your looking for.

Help! Calling all laptop hardware gurus! (Dell CPi-A video prob)

Can you explain this in a little more detail? What I am getting is that it does boot fine with the LCD connected and having an external monitor connected , and it won't even boot up if you disconnect the ribbon off of the LCD? If this is correct that's the way most laptop's are designed. I don't...

Got a PCI IDE controller installed, but what about the new HD?

Have you tried to boot to Windows XP CD . It should have the drivers for your card and then you can fdisk and format .

You may try to boot up to Windows XP CD and then go to repair and chkdsk /r. I know you said that you already ran chkdsk but did you put the /r after it?

Too many mid-range video card choices, please help!

I would have looked for the 9500 non-pro and then do the mod to take it up and past 9700 speeds.

comp won't display

You may want to check around on the motherboard look for blown caps, burn marks soemthing along those lines. Then check your agp slot make sure it's not damaged check for cracks, burn marks, etc. YOu may see if you can borrow a power supply from a friend. You can normally rip one out of another...

Will xp pro run on a pentium 2?

Sorry about that last post hit enter by accident. XP will run fine especially if you turn off most of the services and graphics. I have had it run on a 233 with MMX and while it ran slow it did run.

Cracked my laptop screen! now what?

It's not very hard to change the lcd on a laptop. Its actually quite easy if you have a small phillips screwdriver and maybe a 6 , 8 , and possibly size 10 torx set.

Is it possible to access the BIOS without any memory installed?

No it's not possible, RAM is one of 3 things that are required to make a motherboard POST with the other being CPU and a video card. So with no POST no screen and no getting into BIOS.

Help - Win 2k install problems, need help finding culprit.

Yep I have ran into this problem many times, Even in WinXP , everytime it has been the memory. If you have more than one stick you may try installing Windows with one stick at a time. But I agree get memtester and test your memory.
