ABIT going belly up?

I'm in the same boat. This AN8-Ultra has been awesome for the past few weeks I've had it. Not a problem at all with it (or my previous ABIT board, socket 754 KV8). Sad that they're experiencing such problems. Hopefully things can be turned around.

thanks bamacre! some of you have provided some great responses, and it'll be interesting to see when the data is compared how many times buyers of graphic card upgrades are more pleased with their upgrade (as far as money/performance) than processor upgrades.

Thanks Frosty! and thanks esun for the advice - I've kind of heard the same thing about IB too - that it's an AWFUL lot of work that doesn't really get you much further than plain old AP would... but unfortunately, it seems all of my friends are in IB, and if I were to drop it, I'd be away...

ok, i guess we'll look into getting him another one then. and actually, i've already told him about the error Peter - we're both pretty techy, and we're just trying to figure out if that makeshift solution would work. i'd never let him have it if it were dangerous for him to use.

well, I figured out it had to do with the CPU. Two pins broke off of it. However, I plugged it in correctly this time to the motherboard and it appears as if the computer is starting as it should? Is it fine then? Is the processor going to be slow since it has two pins missing? Before I stuck...

If you were me though, would you just go ahead and use the PC normally and if it died, then RMA to NewEgg (since it is brand new)? Also, I guess I can run software temp tests once I get Windows installed.

well, i did get the mobo for free with a combo... :) the heatsink seems to be secure. no way i can check if it's actually touching the processor then by removing it, but i don't want to risk that of course... it seems sturdy on there... any more suggestions on how to proceed?
