Not sure when you last checked the newer benches, let me know how the numbers compare with yours.
Edit--Dirt 2 scaled with the i7 at 4 ghz on a 5970 with a 43% higher score than on a 3.9Ghz E8400.
BFBC2 scaled with the i7 at 4ghz on a 5970 with a 56% higher score than on a 3.9Ghz E8400...
Yes this is very true, the E8400 is still a nice chip but to be honest does not have the horsepower needed to sufficiently run many of today's new titles. Enjoy your i7, you probably don't even need to overclock it any higher as the performance boost won't be very significant.
Thanks, the case...

Yes an interesting observation on your behalf, I honestly think it's probably a memory bottleneck or shader bottleneck. Those settings tax the card heavily and I'm not too surprised by the results. Mind you these BFBC2 benches were performed at very intense 32 player maps (Port Valdez) and thus...
Ya and not just slower, I could feel the choppiness on an E8400 and then when I played with the same fps on a Quad i7, I noticed how smooth everything felt. It was definitely worth it imo.

Yes two 5970s would work with no problems in any game, as would 3 5870s or 3 5850s. It seems the 5850 though is an outcast in the 5970/5870/5850 family, but any combination of 5970/5870 will work.
Good call, I just noticed it now that the i7 performs very similarly at stock and 4.0Ghz speeds. I'd have to work out some test for that. I'm also wondering how the Thuban's would perform with these similar tests.
Notes:
1)(5870+5850) and (5970+5870+5850) will not run titles such as BFBC2, Metro2033, Dirt 2 and Unigine Heaven.
2)(5870+5970) is the one combination that will run all games perfectly.
2)Crysis will run fine at 4x AA without any problems with any card combination, but will not run smoothly...
One brief conclusion I have made is that these two cards run really really superbly at the following settings:
Asus 5870 stock (850/1200) - @Overclock 1000/1300 - 1.300V - (Mild OC)
Asus 5970 stock (725/1000) - @Overclock 850/1200 - 1.162V - (Mild OC)
Asus 5970 stock (725/1000) - @Overclock...
Thanks, spent a hell of a lot of time finishing these tests but here they are :). The 5850 single test shall probably not happen but I might try the tri fire test later.
Hang tite fellas, some more detailed benches coming shortly, one thing I can say for sure is that there is a significant improvement in the smoothness of games, going from a dual core to a quad core. The minimum frames and averages jump up and it really contributes overall. I'd say definitely to...

This link works.
Yes disable your sound card, which ever you are using. But enable it to play other games as they won't run without the sound card enabled. BFBC2 will run without the sound card.
The last time I tried the E8400 couldn't handle the Crossfire setup well at all...I could try one later but the results for multi-gpu on dual cores are subliminal.
I'm almost done finishing 5970 numbers, I'm having a perplexing time comparing performance at different speeds at stock and oc, the...
I don't know if you are reading my threads but I just had the same problem with BFBC2 and resolved it by disabling the onboard Realtek sound device. You can do this in Device Manager and hit the Sound Video and Game Controllers button, then disable any onboard sound device. Keep in mind that in...
Okay I conducted the following tests:
5850+5870 (worked well in 3dMark Vantage, was even able to overclock each card individually and run in CF, however, games like Dirt 2, Metro 2033, Unigine Heaven all crashed due to some unknown reasons, it's most probably a CF issue with a 5850 and a 5870...

Yes unfortunately I don't have that game any more, I'd have to see if I can get a copy to run the tests.
Posted above in pics. I ditched the OCZ Gold as it wouldn't run past 1400Mhz...It is rated at 1066 by OCZ and shipped as 1600 but also doesn't have any XMP profile. I instead used Crucial...
Thanks, I finally solved the BFBC2 issue by disabling onboard sound. And here are my final 4.0ghz prime stable and Linx stable numbers. I ran both these programs for roughly 30 min all together. Coolermaster Storm Sniper Case fan speed was at 23%.

Okay this is the problem I am having at stock i7 and OC settings, http://www.fragtheplanet.com/832/battlefield-bad-company-2-pc-crashfreeze/ .
The game freezes and makes a buzz, I have thus disabled the onbard real tek sound card as it is the problem, so far so smooth, will let you guys know...
Hmmm, what kind of crashes were you experiencing? Did your entire system crash? Or just the game, my entire sytem crashes, sometimes I get a BSOD...
I'll try doing what you suggest though. Thanks.
I think there is some problem with BFBC2 and the i7, I can't get it to run stable with any setting, everything else is running fine though, I'm working my ass off trying to figure out the bug....The game just crashes after a while...Further testing to continue.
EDIT- Resolved issue by disabling...
