  1. More Realism In Gaming

This was my first thought about the post where he wanted to control the head and body separately. That would be the most frustrating game ever!
  2. Amazon - Huge February PC games sale

I finally cracked and bought the 2K Strategy super pack. After years of being safe from my Civilizations addiction that $15 price was too hard to resist...
  3. Insurance: hit & run

As it was explained to me, it didn't have to be your fault to affect your rates. If you are in a bunch of not your fault accidents, you are still a higher risk to insure so they will up your rates.
  4. Insurance: hit & run

I was rear ended by a driver that ended up being uninsured (not a hit and run, we exchanged info but it turns out his insurance hadn't been paid for for the last 6 months) so I initially filed a claim through his insurance and got estimates for fixing the damage which from looking at it...
  5. Android and car stereos

Crutchfield has good search tools for things like that. From the looks of it Kenwood and JVC both offer it, but as far as I know, none of them update the firmware of older models to support new features, mainly to correct errors in the current firmware.
  6. Journey to Power Cable Project for my Audio system

Why am I not surprised that you have raptors in your HTPC, let alone 5 of them? For all your expensive cables and other mumbo jumbo, you have huge glaring issues with your whole setup that would cost very little remedy and could have a measurable effect on your sound...
  7. Stereo Times reviewer holding my $80k power cables for ransom

If you really want good cabling, you need to upgrade from silver to a super conductor. Sure it's expensive to keep them cold while the music is playing, and pumping the liquid nitrogen around the listening room can look a little messy (not to mention dealing with the condensation) but the way...
  8. Stereo Times reviewer holding my $80k power cables for ransom

You guys know as well as I do that the FSM alters these "scientific" results with his noodly appendage. The only thing you can trust as these two disciples rightly teach is your ears since his noddly appendage is totally grossed out by earwax.
  9. Towns

    Because of Minecraft's success.
  10. Towns

The game is still alpha so it's pretty rough at this point and new features are getting added pretty regularly. Also, the point with most of these games is that you don't have direct control over the citizens. You only influence what they do. I got the game in the Alpha bundle from Indie...
  11. Do radical extremists just carry acid in a jar on them at all time?

Unfortunately you'd just kill her faster. To help her you'd want a weak base... Throwing a strong base on her would be like trying to save her from freezing to death by throwing her in a furnace.
  12. Is College Worth the Investment if You are a Liberal Arts Major?

Here are some more examples from the US News National Liberal Arts College Rankings (I grabbed them from the top 12 from different geographic regions): Williams College: http://www.williams.edu/depts-programs/ Swarthmore: http://www.swarthmore.edu/academics.xml Pomona...
  13. Is College Worth the Investment if You are a Liberal Arts Major?

Nah, it's just how it works. Generally scientists make the broad discoveries and the theory behind how it works and engineers work out how apply the theory in the "real" world. You need both types to get anything done.
  14. Wireless Headphones for TV/Movies.

Wireless will get you worse sound for more money, so if it were me, I'd deal with the cord and take the headphones off when I'm grabbing a beer. That being said, from everything I've heard, the Sennheiser RS160-180 are about as good as it gets without spending a ton of money. As for how they...
  15. Why was the news/media so misleading about phone prices?

While I agree that the US carriers are overpriced, comparing them to GB isn't a fair comparison. The population density is so much higher in GB that it makes it much easier to provide coverage and upgrade your network there. I would be curious to see the cost in somewhere like Canada or...
  16. Iron Chef America Ceramic 4'' Paring Knife $17 1st order shipps free. Or $2 ea

They are a great if you are careful with them and use them mainly for slicing fruits and vegetables. They stay sharp much longer than steel and don't brown fruit as much as metal knives. That being said, I would (and do) only use them as specialty knives to go with a nice set of steel ones. I...
  17. Why doesn't apple support blu ray playback?

Uhhhh, if you don't have an internet connection, you can't go out and download those MPEG2 files that you keep talking about... Also, in my experience it's only new movies or special features that will require updating your player/software so you'd still be able to watch you old content that...
  18. Marijuana lowers IQ permanently study says

It's not a failed study, it just points researchers in a direction for further study. Also, they would need all that stuff to be absolutely certain it is MJ that is causing the IQ loss, but using statistics you can find a statistically significant result without the impossible requirements you...
  19. Marijuana lowers IQ permanently study says

Even if the study didn't have any flaws in terms of setup, the most this kind of study can get you is a correlation because there can be things like hidden variables that aren't controlled for. In order to imply causation you have to find some kind mechanism that causes the change that the...
  20. Why doesn't apple support blu ray playback?

Which display are you using by the way?
  21. Why doesn't apple support blu ray playback?

Anyone else think it's hilarious that this guy is picking apart other poster's spelling given his generally terrible grammar?
  22. Marijuana lowers IQ permanently study says

What about the self-selected population of the study? From what it says in the study it doesn't say that the population was selected randomly.... Also, even if that were all done properly, correlation doesn't imply causation. You may be able to say that people that smoked marijuana as...
  23. Marijuana lowers IQ permanently study says

If you've ever seen someone who drinks a ton of coffee, mountain dew, etc.. every day try to stop cold turkey you'd know that there was definitely a physical addiction. I had a physic's teacher in high school who tried it for one day. In first period he was white as a sheet, had the shakes and...
  24. Marijuana lowers IQ permanently study says

With a large enough sample you can control most of that with statistical analysis. That being said, the initial group of people is self-selected (which greatly reduces the accuracy of any study) and even if that wasn't a factor, correlation doesn't imply causation.
  25. Marijuana lowers IQ permanently study says

So far no one has linked any medical research, just an opinion piece about a study that seems rather flawed from some of the comments in the article. Given how badly the media usually mangles the articles around any scientific study, it seems like about the same thing to me.
  26. Marijuana lowers IQ permanently study says

That isn't smoking. That's evaporating the ethanol which actually sounds really dangerous compared to drinking it. Smoking involves combustion of the substance so if you truly "smoked" ethanol, besides the burns and the water in your lungs, you'd be fine: C2H5OH + 3O2 → 2CO2 + 3H2O
  27. Marijuana lowers IQ permanently study says

You aren't considering all the empty calories in the one can of beer a day and the negative health effects of those extra calories. At least if you go with a glass of red wine you get something besides empty calories. Also, I'm pretty sure they haven't done any studies about alcohol...
  28. Marijuana lowers IQ permanently study says

The problem with smoking marijuana is that you're smoking it which has negative consequences for your lungs similar to smoking tobacco. I've always preferred ingesting it directly in food since you skip the lung damage.
  29. Dad disowns his gay son in handwritten letter

Ahhh, I must defer to your wisdom here. There is no stronger proof than proof by BOLD CAPITALIZATION (although there may be an argument for proof by BOLD, RHYMING CAPITALIZATION).
  30. Neil Armstrong Attacked By Supremacists

I think we found a couple of broken sarcasm detectors...
  31. Dad disowns his gay son in handwritten letter

Documentaries <> science. They have peer reviewed journals full of scientific research, if you want to criticize scientist, go straight to the source. Science always ignores out untestable hypotheses because there is no way to test them. What kind of experiment would you propose to test...
  32. Looking for suggestions/opinions on mid/high HT sound systems.

Especially with that first room with the fire place, the open side and the large windows...
  33. Why doesn't apple support blu ray playback?

You're stopping at silver? Why not get some superconducting wire? Sure the cooling is expensive since you have to cool it with liquid nitrogen, but the sound is so much more open that once you've heard it you wouldn't be able to live without it. Also, make sure you don't get the regular...
  34. Dad disowns his gay son in handwritten letter

Ahhh, because we can never know anything 100%, then everything is equally likely to be true. I mean since Newton's theory of gravity falls apart in some very specific areas, it therefore must be true that an apple is equally likely to fall up as down...
  35. Dad disowns his gay son in handwritten letter

Except for the mountains of the evidence supporting one of the "books" and the mountains of evidence contradicting a lot of the accounts in the other book, it's pretty much the same thing. :D
  36. It's way too much of a chore to play games these days

That's true, but if every consumer that bitched about how shitty so and so company's DRM is didn't buy that game, that would make a huge dent in sales and they'd notice. As far as I'm concerned, the only person's action that I can control is my own (besides the midget I keep chained up in...
  37. It's way too much of a chore to play games these days

The only way to stop the gaming companies from doing sh*t like this is to stop buying their products that have this kind of DRM. I'm always amazed at the people that bitch and moan about how terrible the DRM in a game like Diablo 3 (or insert Ubisoft title here) is but still buy the damn...
  38. How can anyone believe that airplanes hit any of the WTCs?

If you weren't already ignoring Anarchist420, then you haven't been paying attention to P&N.
  39. How can anyone believe that airplanes hit any of the WTCs?

Thanks for making my day! :D
  40. Why doesn't apple support blu ray playback?

I'd say the biggest reason is that they get a piece of the pie with streaming/downloading services through iTunes whereas they get nothing (and actually incur additional costs) from Blu-ray playback.
