I assume the ICH9R ports are the internal ones? What is AHCI mode and is it required for hotswapping ?

In case this will help anyone else, I did a build with the IP35-Pro XE and 4 gigs (2 x2GBs) ADATA 1.8v Ram, DDR-800 and a Q9450. And it works fine. There is only one version of the bios so nothing to change there. I don't know much about overclocking but I did turn the FSB to 400. So it...

620HX and P180

Should I install the 620HX fan side down or turn the power supply upside down so the fan points up ? I'm guessing upside down so the fan points up into the case because most cases would have the power supply at the top and have the fan pointing into the case?

Basic (dumb?) question about firewire

Thanks o1die, I missed the accessory bracket. jd, I liked the eSata being on the back panel. But I may get the IX38 instead because I think it has both the eSata and Firewire on the back panel.

I'm leaning toward the IP35-Pro ($180 at newegg plus shipping) http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813127030 I need firewire and the specs say "onboard 1394 2x 1394a" but the rear panel ports don't include firewire ports. So where do I plug in my firewire cable??

I got a Q9450 and nothing to put it in

Does anyone know if the IP35 Pro will boot up with the Q9450 with the BIOS it gets shipped with these days? I don't have a spare CPU to put in if I have to update the bios to get it to boot with Q9450.

PS, I have the same power supply and same hard drive as you waiting to go in to my case so maybe I will just get the Scythe fans too. ;-) Do you think the quieter S-Flex Ds for the case will do it? Maybe E for the CPU cooler ?

Q6600 verse Q9450

Judging TankGuys by their prices for the Q6600 ($290) and E8400 ($250), one can surmise that the price of their Q9450 ($380) includes a substantial nerd tax.

I don't trust stores that arbitrarily make up retail prices and then say X% savings. It implies they are loose with other things as well - like return policies and customer service.

E6400 Temps Very High?

To close the loop. It must have been a bad CPU because I popped in the new one I got from Intel and temps are around 35 resting and 50 when running stress test.

Thanks. I spoke to Intel and they think the chip is bad. The case had plenty ventilation and I took of the sides. And I reapplied the heatsink. And I flashed my BIOS. Anyway, when I get the replacement I'll wipe off the intel grease and put on some Artic 5.

E6400 Temps Very High?

Giga GA-965G. No overclock. Stock Intel cooling. My E6400 idles at 52c (and it cold this time of year). When running Prime 95 Torture Test temps rise to 74C (with about 50% CPU use). These numbers seem way high from what others report. Are they? Is there anything I can do other then buy...

Thanks for the help Rougestar! Two follow ups. (1) what do you do with all old IDE drives? I have 6 so they all won't fit with only 1 IDE port. (2) If you were not going to overclock, which CPU would you recommend for best price/performance : E6600 or 6400?

8KNXP fixing AGP/PCI/SRC

I find that although I have fixed in the BIOS the AGP/PCI/SRC at 33/66/100, when I increase the CPU Host Frequency the AGP and PCI numbers as reported by the Giga Windows overclock utility climb as well ?
