raid problem from bad sata cables? need some raid 5 input :)

I have a couple of RAID-0 SATA drives in a 2003 Falcon Northwest system. A drive died a few months after purchasing it which Falcon replaced but a few months later I stated getting random disc I/O errors. A Falcon tech I spoke with noted that some of the SATA cables they were using (packaged...

"I'll create a GUI interface using Visual Basic, see if I can track an IP address"

Other than PBS and some sports and news I don't watch TV but I happened to see about 20 minutes of one of these "crime scene" shows last year. It was so silly. If the actors had simply asked the otherwise omnipotent computer "whodunit?", the show would have been over in 5 minutes.

    Parking ticket

Bull. I've been a para for the last 35+ years living in Boston. There are no "blue meters" in Boston. I've never heard or seen of "blue meters" in Metro Boston either. Parking at meters is free for those with HP plates or placards. 30 years ago handicapped parking was almost nonexistant in...

Moniter went down to 4 inches

Vertical deflection circuits. Definitely NOT a problem with electron gun(s) in the CRT or the flyback transformer. If the problem is intermittent, the cause might be a cold/loose solder joint. Knowing how to locate and repair the vertical circuits is probably beyond your ability, but good luck!

Fake Wheelchair Guy Pwns Himself Playing Hero

As a T-5 para for the last 35 years that is how I get in to my car, though I prefer the verb "transfer". It's also how I get in and out of bed, on and off the toilet, in and out of the bathtub on and off a couch etc etc.

    New Build Help

You'll need "Memtest86 +" for that system though I doubt the older Memtest86 would cause the system to shutdown in 5 seconds. It's a bit confusing - the original Memtest86 goes up to version 3.8 or so, but will not work correctly with newer systems such as yours. Another group continued on...

"Cache" is pronounced "cash." Is it ever OK to pronounce it "cash-aye" or are the devs of "The Conduit" idiots?

I've only heard "cue" as well. I smiled at Sentinel's pun (intentional or otherwise).

    partition basics

Partitions turn one physical hard drive in to two or more logical drives. It is not done using "folders" or the like; partitions can be created for operating systems other than Windows. Create partitions on a drive before installing any software, including the OS. If using Windows, the...

"Cache" is pronounced "cash." Is it ever OK to pronounce it "cash-aye" or are the devs of "The Conduit" idiots?

"cash-aye" (more or less) is the pronounciation of the word "cachet", but not of the word "cache".

    Getting old sucks

Had the progressive no-line bifocals for about a week. I could not drive with them - I'd glance to the right and focus on the windshield mounting and my reaction was to immediately steer away. I was going to get in to an accident doing that. Took them back and got reading glasses. I have...

    BEST VOIP

Curious why you dislike BroadVoice? I've never used it but I helped a friend understand the benefits of VOIP. His wife is from Brazil and he was spending a small fortune on phone calls. Hey I need help with my computer...it's broken?

:) Maybe my upstairs neighbor is "JoeHutley". She doesn't look like a "JoeHutley", but her browser screen looks like that. Every time I work on her system I delete that stuff. She doesn't know what the toolbars do much less use them yet she manages to acquire a lot of 'em.

Hey I need help with my computer...it's broken?

I got a laugh reading your post! Seen many systems like this. Another pet peeve of mine is all the browser tool bars people download and don't use. Open IE on their system to find something on the Web and I can't see much - half of the screen is covered with useless tool bars.

What's the best meal you've ever had?

Duck from a duck farm somewhere in the vicinity of Gunstock Mountain, NH. They slow cook their ducks for 8 hours. I love duck, and their cooking method results in a non-greasy and delicious duck. NH friend took me there several times but I don't know where it is.

Time Warner Cable Adds Cap ?n Tier Language to Subscriber Agreements

Clever on the part of TWC because in addition to formalizing a cap, it appears they have modified their Terms of Use to include future changes in Terms of Use. Many Terms of Service in the industry include a penalty-free opt out option if the terms are changed. The new "update" would seem to...

Texas wins longest ever NCAA Baseball game in 25 innings

I saw the headline in the local (Boston) papers. A long game to be sure but aways to go to catch up to the longest pro baseball game: Triple-A teams Pawtucket Red Sox and Rochester Red Wings. The game began on Saturday, April 18, 1981, and continued through the night and into Easter morning...

What would you do in this situation?

LOL - Reading this thread, I was wondering the same. It appears that some posters do not understand Heller's meaning (and logic) of "Catch 22". Great book, but the movie could not do justice to Heller's writing. (Major Major Major - secretly named that by his dad and promoted to the rank of...

    Jesus Christ

@Boston Dangler - I didn't intend to sound whiney about being a para! I merely wanted to point out that paras and others in wheelchairs can learn to use escalators. :) From the Sears store manager's point of view, the concern was about possibly injuring others (cf the OP's video) and probably...

    Jesus Christ

I've been a T-5 paraplegic since 1974 and learned how to ride escalators in a wheelchair in rehab. (I learned with a few other paras at Boston's Pru Center.) A few years later, I got chewed out by a Sears manager for using the escalator to reach the second floor. The building did not have a...

Anyone else here able to voluntarily contract the muscles in their Eustachian Tube?

Interesting. Until I read the original post I didn't know this phenomenon had a name nor how it worked - I've always been able to do it.
