i7-5960X shuts off during boot when overclocking cache only when Linux + ACPI = ON

I've experimented with a BCLK of 100 as well, but for some reason the system doesn't always boot when you try to use the memory at DDR4-3000. It's reliable with a BCLK of 125 at that memory speed. I have tried to use a BCLK of 100 with DDR4-2133 to try experiment that way: Mult 46 Cache 40-45...

At work I have used PLX 8648 and 8618 switches (x48 lane and x18 lane) that also carry the same 5.0 Gbps tag line, but definitely work in 4x and 8x bandwidths. If the 8609 switch was limited to 1x switching bandwidths, then why would PLX allow you to configure it in 4x lane mode? The 8609...

The switch is a 5 GT x 8 lane switch, not 5 Gb total bandwidth. 4 lanes are dedicated for the cable port, and 4 lanes are dedicated to the card edge connector. So, by using 4 lanes you will have 2000 MBps available bandwidth. But yes, using GigE you will be saving yourself a lot of hassle...

4 lanes of Gen 2 PCIe (which is the card linked) is 20 Gb/s vs the 10 Gb/s from one 10 Gb Ethernet link. However, the Ethernet solution will be a LOT easier to setup AND you can use more than one port to get more bandwidth. 10Gbase-T cards (copper) are expensive as well, but still probably...

It looks like it will work, but you will need to create drivers and software to operate the switch on the card in a non transparent mode. You might need a card for each PC, and then connect them with a cable - at that point you won't be able to transfer data, you'll have to create something...

Argggg, please make them in bigger sizes :( The first gen ones also had the same issue for me. 265/17 and 295/18 would be awesome. They do have 255/40/17 and 285/30/18 now (previously the max was 275/35/18), so maybe I'll give those a try.

Streaming feed for the raiders/broncos game

It's on channel 7 in the bay area. All ESPN or NFL Network games involving a local team are rebroadcast on a local channel (unless blacked out). It's the NFL or ESPN feed, just shown on a different channel so those who don't subscribe can watch the local game.

Shaved tires last longer. Myth, or true?

This can be true if a full depth tire "chunks", or has pieces ripped off when the tread flexes. Once you shave it, the depth doesn't allow the same flexing, and no chunking. A shaved tire and a full depth tire used on the track may actually see the same useful life. The rubber will harden...

Thoughts on the 2004-2008 TSX

I have an 06 MT. I like it, my only gripe is the paint sucks. It has very little chip resistance, so my hood looks terrible after 90k. Other than that it has been great.

Anyone use a sound card?

I feel your pain with the Hercules. I have the same card/box and had similar problems. I eventually stopped using it when BF3 caused me to upgrade to windows 7. Now I just use long 3.5mm cables to bring the headphone output to my desk. No more pot to control the volume though :(

Rice cookers: Pressure cooker worth it?

Technically your 10$ pot will cook slightly slower since the boiling point of water at sea level is 212F. At 5250 feet it is 202F. Not much different but technically it will be slower than at sea level.

Drinking water from the local utility company is almost nothing... Not worth it. If you're trying to get rain water from your taps/showers... that's another story. You'll need a system to generate water pressure (pump or balloon membrane storage tanks). Probably way more trouble than its worth.

Question about wheel locks bought from dealer

If it's the honda branded locks, the dealer should still have the masters for all the versions in their shop. They should be able to order you a replacement if you bring it in. Not sure if there is a serial number on the locks that you can just call in. My car came with some factory branded...

Impact wrenches (what do you use)?

I have a hf impact (94803) that works great. I also have an electric impact, but it's too big to fit into some places where I need to use it. Air ratchets are another great reason for an air compressor, don't forget about them!!

Tracked it up last Friday

Based on your sig you probably have the same problem I have... Poor C5/Z06s lack beefy brakes (rotors) as well. They will stop good with track pads, but I crack my rotors every 2-4 events (and the calipers spread over time as well).
