Retail CPUs come with the metal heatspeader (silver metal cap) that covers the cpu core. That makes them taller. Most mobos are meant for these chips. So if you are using a laptop cpu, you need to account for that. You just need to file down the plastic feet on the bottom of the plastic clip...

Dell Canada released the 22" LCD during their Boxing week deals up here in Canada, $299 Can, and free shipping. Pretty hot deal. However these are Tn panels and people are having various issues and gripes about this LCD. You can read some comments here ... RFD Link

LF Acer Travelmate 270 Service Manual

I'm looking for a basic service manual/ instructions to replace some parts inside my ACER Travelmate 270 laptop. I checked out the ACER site but found no info. I'm basically looking for guides/ description like Dell has on ther website for their notebooks. thanks

Why Can't I connect to certain websites?

I was thinking about doing that as a last resort. But why would it happen to two comps. my desktop and my lap top?? Maybe I can try my laptop out at work...

Why Can't I connect to certain websites?

I tried disabling the winxp firewall, but it had no effect on this problem. I'm wondering if ther is something in the router. It's a Linksys, which I have at default settings. I wonder if ther are some ports or something set to block out certain sites???

Why Can't I connect to certain websites?

Not sure if I have spyware or a virus or something, but I find I can't log into ebay or tigerdirects websites. It started last night. I checked at work today and I had no problem. I just tried at home now and same problems. But its only those sites. Both with my desktop and laptop. Any ideas...

256 mb will only help at high res. with large textures. The 6600gt is faster. Even a 9800 pro will be faster...

How would an unlocked 6200 or 6600 agp compare to say a 9800pro or 6600gt? or even 9700pro..

Cheap Vid Cards: Sapphire 9800se or Gainward 5600fx ?

Yup they are odd cards, I had a tough time finding info on them. The cheaper the better... its just for a kid's computer. Both are in the $70 range... Saw them at a local comp. shop. The "hot deals of the week..." ;)

Cheap Vid Cards: Sapphire 9800se or Gainward 5600fx ?

I know both are pretty low end cards, but I can get one cheap. Which would be a better choice: Sapphire 9800se 128 meg (L shaped memory) or The Gainward 5600fx "Golden sample" 256 meg? The Sapphire one cost a few bucks more...

Just got mine... so far I like it, sharp and clear. DVD's and TV look great on it also. Unlike some LCD's, this actually looks decent in some of it's non-native resolutions... Happy so far. Can't beat the price.... Now for the Rebates:roll:

Optical mouse pointer stops working until I reconnect it

I have a computer which is running WInXP home. It has an optical mouse. every now and then the mouse "stalls"... the pointer stops working, until I disconnect it and reconnect it. Has anyone had this type of problem? The mouse is a USB mouse and the mobo is a Gigabyte with a 2.6 ghz P4- 400...

Well, I took the the POS back... turns out there were 4 other units (that I could see behind the counter) returned. I talked to one other guy he had the same problem. I spoke to the service guy, he said they were promo items, not a standard item in stock, that's why they were on sale for a good...

Thanks for the replies... I have the unit plugged in directly... no extension cord. It is the only thing running on that circuit. I believe the start up surge and the fuse rating at 80% is the problem. (Maybe i'll stick a penny in the fuse base ;-) Looks like i'll return it. Hopefully I still...

How can you improve quality of picture at 1024x768 on 17" LCD monitors?

I just picked up a Benq 17" FP731. It's pretty good at it's native resolution 1280x1024. I assumed it would run the lower resolutions adequately, but I was wrong. I can't run at 1024x768 very well. This is the res. where fonts are easy to read etc. Is there a way ... a utility or something...
