sudden reboots after 1 month rock-solid

First, in response to the latest question about doing anything else besides Prime95...mostly my system is just doing Prime95, sometimes I also play games, recently this has been Diablo II (how many times will I need to finish this game before I get tired of it?). Here's the latest info... I...

sudden reboots after 1 month rock-solid

According to Soltek the DDR voltage is supposed to be 2.5, not 2.7. That makes my 2.47V pretty close to spec. I'm not sure why the referenced review said they were expecting 2.7. Thanks for the confirmation on my values, Boonesmi.

sudden reboots after 1 month rock-solid

Thanks for the DDR Voltage pointer Buz2b. According to MBM it is running at 2.47 V, well below the 2.7 setting. Soltek did reply to my emails with info that it is possible that the shutdown is related to the ABS function and they have released a new BIOS version giving more access to this...

sudden reboots after 1 month rock-solid

Thanks for more good ideas Buz2b. I'll check the RAM temp when I get home tonight. Maybe I'll move the HD probe to the RAM so I can log it too. I don't remember the RAM brand off hand but it is DDR 333 so I imagine it could be hot. I also haven't tried the fan on the open case idea yet but...

sudden reboots after 1 month rock-solid

Ok, so I started my system after it being off all day and the temperature rose up to 42 C. After letting it run all night it remained at that temp. I then set MBM to log every 1 second and started Prime95. It has now been about 2 hours and the system is still up and the temperature is around 49...

sudden reboots after 1 month rock-solid

My biggest concern is that 1) it is a brand new MB that I got because my last one was unstable and 2) I'm NOT overclocking. I'm really hoping there is something I can do to fix this other than stop running Prime95. Not because Prime95 is so important to me but because I want a really stable...
  7. Q

sudden reboots after 1 month rock-solid

Good suggestion Buz2b. I'll try running more without Prime95. I have run for about 12 hours w/o it and w/o problems. I'll also double check the BSOD setting. Duvie, how did you fix your power problem? As I said, I'm pretty sure my PS is ok. Is there anything else that could cause power drops?
  8. Q

sudden reboots after 1 month rock-solid

You're right about the PS. I don't have the spec with me now but I do know that the combined voltage is well above the recommended values. That was one thing I specifically looked at when buying it. As for the temperature, again what you say makes sense. My understanding of Prime95 is that it...

sudden reboots after 1 month rock-solid

Oops, sorry, I didn't realize that. I was just looking to get wide coverage. Is there any way for me to close or delete this thread, then?
  10. Q

sudden reboots after 1 month rock-solid

I agree completely. I thought the swing should be much more as well. My MB has another temperature monitor that I have stuck to the top of one of my HDs and it reads around 28 C consistently so I know the inside ambient temperature of the case should be no more than that. As for the CPU temp...

sudden reboots after 1 month rock-solid

I have a Soltek SL-75DRV5 and recently started having some problems. The problem is that my computer will suddenly reboot. I bought my MB about 1 month ago and it was running fine until 2 days ago. During this time the computer was turned on 24 hours every day. Then, 2 days ago, it started...

What is a good and stable KT266A MB?

I've been struggling with stability issues with my current Tyan Tiger 133 MB and am at the point of giving up on it. Besides, it's a good excuse to upgrade my system. So, I'm looking for a good and stable new MB. I'm thinking I should go for one of the KT266A based MBs and I'm wondering what...

    looking for a STABLE system

Hi all, After repeated stability problems with my current system I'm considering upgrading. I'm wondering what is recommended as a good performance system but an exceptionally stable system. Specifically I'm looking for a good MB, RAM, and power supply. I would like to reuse my existing HDs...

Turning on IDE DMA in Win2000 (VIA chipset)

Because of the Via drivers, I don't have the 'primary disk controller' (or secondary) instead there are 2 VIA BM controllers (I'm not at my computer now and the names might be somewhat different). Anyway the properties for these don't have anything related to DMA. BTW, I'm not using ATA-100...

Turning on IDE DMA in Win2000 (VIA chipset)

I have a Tyan Tiger 133 dual CPU MB that uses the VIA chipset. I was wondering how to turn on DMA for my IDE drives as this appears to not be on right now. I have installed the VIA 4in1 drivers. This was a painful operation and caused Windows to crash and become corrupted so I'm not sure how...

    (un)planned OGR dump?

Well, despite a strong effort by DPC (415,660 GNodes) we still squashed them soundly (592,425 GNodes). I was proud of my 30,000 GNodes until I saw that giantnt4vizmechthunderstorm beat me by 100,000 GNodes, The Federation more than trippled me, and ottawanker was 50% higher than me. With 10...

    (un)planned OGR dump?

Well, I flushed a reasonably nice amount but due to a minor network problem they didn't go to Mika's. Oh well, they still count to me and the team.

Now is the time for all good crackers......I need help!

Thoughts: 1. A mem tester program may pass the RAM even though there is a problem. I've heard of RAM testers running for 12 hours before getting a problem. 2. Heat has been mentioned and should be considered. This includes chipset, CPU, and memory. 3. If you can you might want to try a...

I'll make up whatever difference remains at the end. I can put it in from now for another 2-3 hours or in another 13 hours (3PM PST?, when I get back into work). Just tell me/us the balance.

DNet responds to P4 core inquiry

You might want to talk to Tom at Tom's Hardware. I know he's been benchmarking the P4 for MPEG4 encoding and would probably really appreciate a new benchmark tool.

Huh? A /. member flushing through OUR proxy?!? Yeah! It's good news!

Welcome SyZ, I like anyone with a name as weird as mine. In answer to Russ's question. OGR 24 isn't necessarily more fun but since the number of nodes (work units) are significantly less, and since most people aren't concentrating on it, each unit done pulls a lot more weight in the stats...

    Infinite OGR

I was thinking about OGR a bit and how/when OGR 26 and higher will start and end. I was thinking that because the OGR contests double in complexity at each increment (like OGR 25 is twice as difficult as OGR 24) they will necessarily settle down to about 18 months for each contest. Why...
