I suppose I don't understand the workings correctly. Say I want to get my workstation at home connected to the domain. How do I login to the domain with a user account IF I have to be logged into the client machine to start the VPN client?
I hope that makes sense!
Thanks.
Hi All!
I have a question that I need clarification on.
I have a site that uses a Netgear FVS114 Firewall device with VPN support. Behind this device is a local Active Directory on Windows SBS 2003 R2. Ideally I would like to do secure remote administration from my home for this network. I...
As mentioned in the topic title I'm running a BIOSTAR NF325-A7 motherboard, with a Sempron 64 3300+. I dual boot linux / Windows regularly and haven't had any problems until today. Today I decided to reboot my PC and when I did the BIOS appeared to freeze. The BIOSTAR splash screen appears...
I have the opportunity to change motherboards and use the Sempron CPU in the title. With my 2500+ XP at 2.4gHz what processor would you recommend regardless of the other hardware in the system. This is just a processor comparison and I don't know what is better. Thanks.
Well I checked out that 1 touch backup system and it seemed really expensive. I'm not sure whether my client will consider it worth it to be honest. All I can do is ask and I'll do that.
As far as the database that is not in Access so Office Basic will do fine and I've already confirmed that...
This customer doesn't want to use OpenOffice or Linux. I love both but it's not an option. At least you didn't give any bad comments on the build :) Also I don't think this user really needs XP Pro either. It's a very small office.
Now I'm looking to see what I can do for the same hardware /...
I just wanted to say thanks for all the comments. It's funny though, there doesn't seem to be a mid-ground here. People either say get something really expensive (i.e. Core 2 Duo) or get something cheaper (i.e. Sempron).
On a side note this machine will most likely contain a database of 3000...
After a quick look this is what I put together:
Intel BOXDP965LTCK $119.99
Core 2 duo E6300 Retail $185.00
Mushkin DDR2-667 1GB $81.99
Seagate 7200.10 200GB $77.99
NEC ND-3550A $29.25
Antec SLK1650 $69.99
FSP Group AX400-PN $41.50
ASUS EN7300GS $57.99
For a grand total of $663.70...
Blain, I suppose you are right, but I would still like to price out a custom built system. I just don't know what chipset is good for a C2D that is not out of this world expensive.
I would still like to at least price a custom built system, but the motherboard seems to be the hurdle for me right now. I don't know what the best chipset is for a decent price.
Although I do agree Blain, but I'm trying to look 5 years out. 1GB isn't going to be the norm 5 years from now. I would want to say 2GB might be.
With that aside I'm having real issues trying to find a Core 2 Duo MB that provides a decent set of features for a reasonable price (i.e. prob $100...
Although I do agree with some of your choices I think it's a little bit over the top for an office machine. This is something that has to stay reasonably priced, yet be able to last. I know that is kind of an oximoron but it's something I have to try and hit. I was thinking about the Core 2...
My thoughts were putting together core 2 duo system with a relatively cheap 7900 series nvidia card. Something that will run well for his office apps, yet at the same time it should prepare him for Vista because I would think XP end of life would be in the next 5 years.
For an office machine...
A client of mine is looking into getting a desktop machine for his office. He said he would like to have the machine last 5 years if possible. What kind of hardware would you recommend purchasing now with the thoughts that it could last 5 years (even though I think that is a bit unreasonable)...
I'm currently building a network appliance that has a 1.2gHz tualatin celeron processor. Since this is going to be used as a network appliance (firewall) I would like to clock it down low enough such that I could remove the fan from the processor to reduce noise. Is this feasible? How low would...
I don't run the linksys firmware on my WRT54G but I believe there is an option to turn the router from "gateway" mode to "router" mode. With the router in "router" mode you can still plug your firewall into the WAN port of the WRT54G and it will work fine. If you have any problems post back and...
That's the name of the game. Those network configurations are typical of firewalls out in the real world. I didn't come up with this stuff. It's just common practice, as nweaver said.
That's what I figured. Thanks.

There is a couple ways you could go about making your machine not respond to a ping. I'm not that familiar with Suse 10 so I'm just shooting from the hip here. Try looking for a file called /etc/sysctl.conf. In that file there is a line that...
Are you familiar with IPTables? If so and it's installed on your machine (and if your machine is not a gateway to other machines try this:
EXTIF = eth0 # Interface reaching the internet
IPT=/usr/bin/iptables # Location of the executable
$IPT -A INPUT -i $EXTIF --dport auth -m state...
I'm having trouble configuring printing in Windows XP. The Administrator can print but when a user tries to print an error message that says "problem communicating with the printer" displays and nothing is printed.
How do I configure this correctly?
I just went to bestbuy.com and put an order in for one and it came to $5.24 with tax. I chose in store pickup. I'll let you all know if it works out! Thanks for the deal
I'll try the CMOS reset and get back to you. I'm not at my machine right now and won't be for a couple of hours. I just have to make sure I write down a couple of settings :)
And there is no floppy in the floppy drive already checked :)
First off my system specs are in my signature.
Here is the problem. I just got a new Dell 1704FPT LCD monitor and I went to set the monitor up. So I shut my PC down and commenced with unplugging the old CRT monitor and plugging in the new LCD monitor (into my DVI jack). I booted the system up...
ya I meant 34.4Kbps, oops sorry :(. Essentially what I'm asking is that would it be worth it to split up a phone line connection that isn't even at full speed?
Well since you said that you had him ping URL's instead of IP's that would lead me to believe that his problem isn't DNS because the names are being resolved correctly. How long has it been since the router / cable modem has been recycled (i.e. powered down and turned back on)? I've had similar...
Why don't you try and go here and check out the networking forum. It is definitely more linux oriented.

From a high level standpoint it seems you have a routing / masquarading task here. I think there are commands to change the source if you check out:

First off I didn't really know where to put this post so I'll attempt here. I just had someone ask me if they could have wireless internet on a telephone dialup connection.
I told them I would get back to them.
My thinking was it is a possibility. I think that it is possible if you have a...
