Some of the bios settings i do without thinking (a habit I guess)
Setting my first boot device to be Harddrive and disabling all other boot devices and also disabling "boot from other device".
Disabling all other drives not used etc etc etc
Perhaps this is why I rarely get into trouble
Good choice despite the rambling from Iron Woode. I use it in my HTPC and have the 4000+ over clocked - see sig. I also bought some Crucial Rendition very cheap (2 1G sticks), I think 20.00 each stick. There is a setting in BIOS to assist the overclock stability - post here and i will give you...
I would have tried WindowsME - this was far superior to WinSE and should run whatever software he has. I hope you told him that there is no security left in W98SE and he will be open to viruses/hacking or anything out there.
WinME has been condemned by many but I had zero problems with my...
I like the Biostar 570SLI works great - no onboard video.
Also the Gigabyte 690G-S3H - (or newer version 790G) has on board video, sound, lan and HDMI
Asus is also my pick for boards except that i did not like their offerings for the AM2
Both boards overclock well
That has been around in Gigabyte boards forever. Good point about reading the manual - almost every new board I purchase I sit down with the manual before installing anything and just flip through for any new stuff.
Eeryone should learn to do the same - short attention span is what most people...
SO use sots 2 or 3 - the problem is some HW conflict (the days of the old IRQ problem and swapping around solves). Slot 1 is usually blocked by the video card anyway.
I have a TV card in slot 2 and the Dlink 54g wireless can't remember the model now (so many of these wireless cards I have) in...
First get the Via 4.43 all in one drivers frm www.viaarena.com
This should have most of the drivers you need
Then download the driver for the video card - assuming you are not using onboard video.
You still need to clean out all the ghosted devices afterwards to get a pseudo clean install so not entirely BS. And it is best to reinstall drivers afterwards (e.g. Chipset and video) even though you already installed those under the old install.
For IP35 and IP35-E. Waste of time to flash (unless if you are getting an E8400).
With my rig I have a power centre so I kill the power entirely. I guess I will always be stuck with this issue.
And a reminder to all - do not flash using abit's flash menu - especially beta bioses; almost lost the bios chip recently - but good fortune it booted to floppy and I recovered in DOS mode. Not everyone will be so lucky.
Hope 16 makes some attempt to fix the double booting. Out of the 3 P35...
I remember a video a while back with the old AMD thunderbirds (or was it an Athlon XP) - they tested a MB and cpu and in a few seconds a loud explosion - booom! Punched a whole into the motherboard - use your imagination.
"RegalK: I'm curious did you ever try a strange combination of ram like this one with your board? "
As a rule I do not mix and match and I always buy mid to high end RAM to avoid problems (also mid to high end PSUs)
Having said that I did run the A8N-E for about 6 months with a no name 400W...
Thumbs up here as well (Bios F7 works great for me and gave me extra mileage 419 X 8). I have now settled it down for the long haul ... I hav efound the best settings for the E4500 and wil leave it be
I thought this problem went away - see the thread is still alive. I am really surprised - I am going to connect my USB drives (in fact 2 of them) boot and see what happens - my system has been runnig rock solid for a while now with the E4500 overclocked to 3352 (419 FSB X 8) with F7 bios...
Lopri - you usually post fairly good comments - what the heck is the above about?
My A7N8X delux 1.04 and "E" version is still going after 4 years
My A8N-E has been overclocked from day 1 (coming up to close to 2 years) - I have rebuilt this several times with all kinds of RAM, video cards etc...
You are asking for trouble - If you have already taken the trouble to set the ram timings with the old ram you may want to reset the ram to auto before using the new ram.
I use OCZ 2.5 3 3 7 DDR on both of my DFI ultra-Ds. One runs are 230 speeds and one only at 205-209 speeds same settings...
What is your temp in WINDOWS using CORETEMP? Should be closer to 40C or below. If you just installed with Intel stock then perhaps that is about right in BIOS. My guess at load it will only be 49 or 50C so you shouldbe fine - if you overclock then monitor temps
One of your OC limitations is the OCZ. I use the OCZ XTC rev 2 on the DS3L and it is a dog (compared to my Corsair, Mushkin, Crucial, Patriot and Crucial). In the end I stopped trying to run the OCZ at speeds in excess of 900 and ran close to 800 speeds. Maybe you should bump the voltage of the...
Probably BIOS not recognizing the C2d 8400 - question is HOW to flash when you need a "recognizable" CPU to do so (maybe get a cheap C2D celeron or take it to a local shop)
Was looking at this board - just read somewhere of someone basically that DFI is on its last breath and that its P35 line is not as good as its heyday NF4 lines. Anyone come across anything. Just average compared to say Gigabyte. Now I am having sceond thoughts
NO Just change reboot to safe mode - wait until all new HW found - skip any if it cannot find. Unistall the 945 chipset and graphic drivers and reboot normally
Install the P35 drivers
Install the graphic drivers
You should be good to go.
There are some swaps that are not easy - I tried all...
What do you mean you can't wait until XP SP3?? And you are waiting for??
I have 2 DFI Ultra-D boards already mothballed - gonna keep them for messing around then give away to some of my buddies
Yes (not a whole lot more but more stable) - with 12 and 14 lots of reboots and instabilities. With 15 I was able to get up to 370 X 9 and been like that now for a few days (Q6600 B3) Lots of gaming time last week end without a problem. I was going to kill the IP35-E and go for the DFI but after...
Tried 12 - too many issues for me - quickly scrapped
14 - was OK (could not get to 400FSB)
15 was best so far - a bit quicker than 14 and definitely more headroom in my overclock
Still though double booting - cuurrently 370 X 9 with Q6600 and runnig well
You will fight with the OC beyond 3600 and will eventuall give up - mine is stable for last 2 weeks at 3720 (465 FSB) at 1.5v (vdroop 1.39) on the P5K-E wifi (Asus has a terrible vdroop issue)
The 6750 is golden as are the Q6600 GO
Now I have to start looking for that MB - I am convinced (wanted to dump my IP35_E anyway). Loved the DFI Socket 939 now will see how the 775 works
You just made up my mind
That is the overclock I was aiming for until the B3 arrived at my doorstep - knew I was in trouble
One question is...
Applied same principles for memory settings to the DS3L and whoah it worked. After flashing to latest bios F7 the board works all the way to 425 (never did that before). I did not go further.
Currently running at 419 X 8 (3350 at 1.4315v)with memory settings all set manually except the last two...
No as i said never tried it - when you configure Raid it will ask you to select the drives you want in raid config - other dirves left in non-raid - do not see what the issue really is - try it
Try clearing cmos
If you are getting message cpu not detected - can't be MB - perhaps the cpu is dead (improper installation of HS?) - I doubt it though since modern cpus have built in thermal control to protect
You compare the speed of your processor to the stock speeds of other processors and figure out how much money you're saving by overclocking and use the savings to buy a next rig and a next rig etc etc until your wife leaves you
Your house is an electroden
