What could be "bad" about the processor except the heat sensing diode? Could it be that the IHS is not very well secured to the chip, causing poor heat transfer? Other than that, its an object that generates heat like anything else, and so either you are adequtely "wicking" away the heat with...

How to test a new CPU/Motherboard

Why don't you boot into DOS, or put your bootable Windows CD in there and cancel the install process. Or, you can just press the BIOS setup button on boot to avoid loading the OS. Just be creative. Other than that, I don't see how you can test a motherboard short of plugging things into it to...

Thanks for the post. Your case temps seem excellent. Ordinary room temperature. I guess that's not a problem for you. What kind of case is it? Do you just have huge fans in it? Anyway, I hope your new heatsink helps. P.S.: It just so happens I was running some more tests confirming...

P4 2.6c temps

My P42.8C idles at ~40C and climbs up to ~60C running an intensive app like a game (UT2003, Aquamark3). Case temp is ~38C. However, I've been reading these forums and some people seem to be able to keep the temps between ~38C and ~45C. How does one keep the temperature differential so low...
