Where do MSI motherboards stand? Any good?

I have the MSI Big Bang XPower (X58 Chipset) and it's been running rock solid for over 2 years now. Best motherboard I've ever owned.

OCCT Large Data Set Fails (defective CPU / RAM ?)

The timings and voltage are set to the XMP profile by default through the auto bios settings. I've tried with both XMP and manual looser timings both fail the OCCT Large Data Set. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes to fail and sometimes 2 hours. I've also tried 1T and 2T commant rates doesn't make...

OCCT Large Data Set Fails (defective CPU / RAM ?)

I built a budget PC for a friend to use casually and play WoW and Diablo 3 and this is the first time I've encountered something like this with all stock settings. I've overclocked my own computers successfully many times but I can't get this one stable no matter what, and this is all stock...

    A7N8X-Deluxe won't boot up!

You aren't even able to get into the bios anymore? Or you just can't boot into windows? The only problems I ever had with my old A7N8X-Deluxe was the cmos battery needed to be replaced once, and my bios actually got corrupted somehow when saving and exiting out of bios. I had to remove the...

X58 Motherboard - MSI Bing Bang XPower or ASUS Rampage III Formula

I have the XPower and it's an amazing board. Haven't had a single problem with it and it surpassed my expectations for overclocking. The only downside is EIST (Speedstep) doesn't lower the voltage if you use anything other than auto for the vcore. Other than that I really like this board, the...

    I7 930 @ 4ghz. Why are my temps high?

After several days of messing with my new system I finally found stable settings which I think are quiet good and among some of the lowest voltages atleast for vcore yet my temps are still reaching those that use 1.3vcore or more? My specs are in my sig and here's the voltages I'm using: CPU...

Speedstep, use when OCing or not?

You were spot on with the qpi voltage. If the system isn't stable with speedstep it's most likely the qpi voltage. I found it easiest to find my stable overclock with it dissabled and then enable it after and see where I'm at. When I had to up my qpi to 1.3 to get it 12 hours stable that also...

Speedstep, use when OCing or not?

CPU Vcore: 1.208v (full load in CPUz) CPU PLL: 1.45v IOH: 1.1v QPI: 1.3v Vcore was at 1.2v full load when I crashed after 6 hours.

Speedstep, use when OCing or not?

Interesting. I'll try messing with the qpi voltages once I get this stable. I was sad to wake up this morning to the windows screen. According to the event log I was stable 6 hours but blue screened at 6 and a half. Probably just need one more notch of vcore?

Oh ok sorry. I misunderstood you.

Speedstep, use when OCing or not?

seems like it, or perhaps it's the bus speed that speedstep doesn't like. For whatever reason I couldn't seem to find any combination of voltages to make 20x200 stable with all the power saving features enabled. It looks like 1.248vcore is going to get me stable now without speedstep. Perhaps...

Speedstep, use when OCing or not?

errr I got excited and typo'd. see it's 1.19v: http://home.comcast.net/~cc_silent/pwpimages/4ghz.1.19v.jpg I think I'll shit my pants and then try for 4.2ghz if this is somehow stable o.O... Sorry I would have fixed it faster but linpack slows down even an i7.

Speedstep, use when OCing or not?

LOL! soooooooooooo.... Suddenly after a full night of prime95 stable I get a blue screen out of nowhere today and then windows won't even boot anymore. So I try to up the vcore to 1.3v and still can't boot into windows. So I thought of this post and dissabled speedstep... GUESS WHAT...

Speedstep, use when OCing or not?

Nice results. I don't think you need to go any higher. I'm at 4ghz @ 1.256v(CPUz) right now and was able to pass 1 hour of occt and linx. I don't think I can push it any higher with my temps without dissabling hyperthreading. I don't think I should be hitting 81c with only 1.256vcore though...

Speedstep, use when OCing or not?

It scares me too lol. I've worked with some intel systems for my friends but for my own system... My old computer that I just upgraded from was an AMD Athlon XP... It's like night and day going to this. I'm not used to things instantly loading like this haha. I'm using the MSI Big Bang...

Speedstep, use when OCing or not?

Ah ok. I don't have a specific speedstep setting for my motherboard but there is an option to dissable eist. I'm starting over on all voltages now. I don't need 1.38v on the qpi. I lowered the multi and kept everything else the same and I was able to boot into windows with only 1.25v qpi but...

Speedstep, use when OCing or not?

Same cooler as you but my temps are already getting high with this voltage. I'm hitting 79-80c on the hottest core with prime95 going. So you only dissabled the eist setting in the bios then? I believe that's the one for speedstep correct?
  18. S

Speedstep, use when OCing or not?

Thanks for the info. If I keep getting blue screens even after raising the vcore I'll try dissabling speedstep. I'm at 1.247vcore(CPUz) currently. Did you turn off c-states too?
  19. S

Speedstep, use when OCing or not?

hmmm I wonder if I should just dissable speedstep or not then. It will lower my idle temps but that's it. So far my 4.2ghz overclock likes lower vcore but it's pretty demanding on the qpi voltage. I'm only at 1.239v vcore under load but it won't even boot into windows with anything under...

Speedstep, use when OCing or not?

What was your idle voltage with speedstep enabled? I'm working on getting my i7 930 stable at 4.2ghz as well and with speedstep enabled my multi drops to x12 but the vcore doesn't change? With my core 2 duo system the vcore drops quite a bit to save power, does the i7 not lower voltage and...

Need a CPU cooler for a 775 CPU

I only have experience with the Tuniq Tower from back when I built a Core 2 Duo system for my cousin. It cools quite well and should be enough to hit the overclock you are shooting for. It was a little tricky to install but just make sure you evenly tighten all four screws. You definitely...

    Motherboard Life Expectancy?

I have an Asus A7N8X 2.0 Deluxe motherboard that I've been running since 2003. It's been running an overclocked AMD Athlon XP @ 1.76v for 7 years and is still running rock solid. I don't think I can stand it any longer so I'm going to upgrade now but in your case you at least have a Core 2 Duo...

    Corsair 650W vs Seasonic 750W

Thanks guys I was originally looking into a Corsair 650 or 750tx but after reading this I started looking into the Seasonic and found the S12D 850w on newegg for $119.99. I think I'm going to go with this instead and it will go nice with my MSI Big Bang Xpower's dual 8pin cpu headers. Should...

    How reliable is RAM?

I'd have to agree with Cerb atleast on DDR2. When I built my cousins pc I used some more expensive Mushkin ram that was good for overclocking and already had higher voltage than standard and it died within a year. The replacement from Mushkin died even faster so I ordered him some G.Skill...

    750w for Core i7 930 overclocked?

Sounds like I would be ok then. If I were to go the sli route it wouldn't be a 480. I tend to go with something lower priced such as a 460 sli or even a single 460 gtx and upgrade every year or other year.

    750w for Core i7 930 overclocked?

Would the 750w Corsair be enough to handle the Core i7 at 4ghz and still have enough room for any video card I choose? I'm still deciding on what video card to go with my new system I'm planning on ordering the parts around September. I usually don't spend the cash on two cards for SLI and go...

IP35-E No longer boots - Urgent Help please!

IP35-E No longer boots - Urgent Help please!

My cousins pc is no longer booting. Everything has been running fine for atleast 3 months and suddenly when he went to turn it on it would hang on the Abit boot logo. Are the latest LCDs any better than my old CRT/LCD?

You can't just go by the numbers. A 2ms lcd could still have worse ghosting then a 5ms if the panel isn't well manufactured. There's 3 versions on the Samsung 226BW I think? If you get anything other then the "S" panel it's gonna respond slower and look worse then the HP w2207. Samsung's "S"...

Are the latest LCDs any better than my old CRT/LCD?

I've been trying to decide on a WS LCD monitor as well and it seems like a hard choice. The two I'm looking at right now are the Samsung 226BW and the HP w2207. The HP seems like a better bet as there's no gamble between which panel you will get and from everything I've read it looks better...

OC won't OC anymore -- UPDATE, SEE INSIDE, ITS BACK

So right now vcore is an actual 1.320v at load? Do you remember if that's what it has always been when it ran stable before? Just trying to make sure that the cpu is still getting the same volts and it's not that the motherboard/psu are not giving the same volts they used to under load. Also...

    Unreal Tournament 3 Performance Preview(s) :)

I'm actually really surprised at how well the game runs. Even on my Athlon XP @ 2.3ghz with my AGP Radeon X800 XT Plat the game still holds 20-30fps at max settings 1024x768 rez no AF. I tried turning everything down but framerates mostly hover around the 30fps area so I just put it all high...

    8800GT Benchmarks here

That's also only at 1280x1024. The card might outscore a gts at that rez but I'm sure at a higher rez like 1920x1200 the gtx will still smash it. No way will nvidia release a $250 card that can come close to the gtx unless they are planning on releasing a new high end card. And for all we...

    8800GT Benchmarks here

http://www.xtremesystems.org/f...howthread.php?t=161904 I dunno if this is real but according to the pics a Core 2 Duo @ 3.6Ghz scores 19881 is 05 and 12072 in 06. That's pretty good then if the price stays $250. Definately = to the current GTS if not a litte faster.

I just hope the prices don't go up anymore. Lets hope when the next high end video card finally comes out, and I mean one that strait up smashes the current 8800 gtx, it's not more then $500. Today without buying a monitor or video card you can get some really nice parts and overclock like...
