Since Circuit City's return policy for the holidays seems to allow for returns up till January 31st, you've got nothing to lose by hooking it up and leaving it on for a bit to see. That's what I'm doing.
I also own both a Tivo and ReplayTV, and each has it's strengths/weaknesses. They're both...
I don't think the issue is the hardware, but rather the software. Sure you can get TV out/small form factor cases, remote controls, etc. for computers and make them more powerful than these standalone boxes. Software like Freevo, mythTV, Snapstream, etc. have come a long way and are very good...
I think it may have been a pre-mature and ill-advised post on my part. Normally I wouldn't just post something, but given that it was at another site I frequent, I didn't initially doubt it. But seeing the source (a random retailer, with a name similar to the Replay), it could be confusion on...
From Techbargains:
"ReplayTV Activation, Dec 20
ReplayTV.us reports that all 5500's have to be activated by Monday 12/22 or else they will have to pay for activation. Doesn't matter if you have a sticker or not.
If you have a unit, activate it, call in. If you don't buy one right away! "
If...
What does "Registered" mean? I went ahead and did the online registration, but now my service status only says "registered". Hopefully this also means it's activated, but I don't see a one-time fee paid or anything of that nature, nor do I believe I will now. Is calling the only way to...
I've also been reading reports that "3 year" units are essentially lifetime, since they're upgrading existing 3-year people to lifetime, and thus we'd be upgraded too.
a) Is this true? Or has anyone else heard of this
b) How is it distinguished in the Sys. Info. screen that we're 3 year or...
I'm pretty sure the "Not registered" relates to registration on the website. I had that message too, and registered. A few hours later, after forcing a connect, my Service is now "Registered".
Copied from a post on Chubby:
"To those who are trying to activate your units. If the setup screen doesn't tell you to activate, you are already activated, so you don't need to activate on the web.
Per this copied from the Replay TV activation page:
"Select "Service Activation."
(Note: if you...
Did anyone who ordered this online get the following email:
"Dear Circuit City customer:
Congratulations on your recent purchase of a ReplayTVr
digital video recorder. We would just like to take a
moment and make sure you're aware of a recent change
in ReplayTVr's service fee and guide you...
Good news!
Mine just shipped, and I don't believe I was one of the early birds on the special:
"The items listed below have shipped on 11/28/2003. Your credit card has now been charged for the shipped items.
Get more information on this or any of your BestBuy.com orders by signing into Your...
Yeah...I just tried getting an alternative monitor, and they told me the only option was the 18". They also helpfully told me they could connect me with a sales rep, and could cancel my existing order. When I asked how that would be any different than me just cancelling my order and buying a...
Another point for clarification:
I was under the impression that Gigabit ethernet (and all others for that matter) were rated for full-duplex, meaning that theoretically, you could have 1 Gbps in and out (2 Gbps total in full duplex). Is that true, and if so, wouldn't it then definitely...
I just got that email too.
I'd consider it, if it was the same price ($310), but I'm not going to spend $75 more so something with double the response speed.
Just wondering, how useful is Gigabit ethernet off of a PCI bus? My new Dell has onboard Gigabit, but with it's own dedicated bus, since the max throughput on Gigabit approaches (or maybe exceeds?) the throughput of the PCI bus.
Silly question, but for those who already have this monitor: How much sound do those 1 watt speakers output? Can they play an MP3 at a decent enough volume for someone sitting a few feet from the monitor? Not looking to fill the whole room with sound, but if I can get rid of desktop speakers...
Not that I know of. I usually have to order online and choose the pick-up option and PM in the store when you go there. They might do PMs on the phone, but I don't think so, b/c they didn't do one for me when I called a few months back.
That sucks :( Sorry to hear they're charging so much for it.
I've been reading about the card, and it looks like it's crippled vs. the standard 8500 in terms of clock and memory speed. Not so good for gaming in it's standard form.
Anyone know of a good place (or perhaps from experience) to...
Just picked up the last one in Montclair, CA.
The one I got is a AIW 64MB AGP (don't know if they come with 128MB models, in case this makes it less hot of a deal)
The SKU is #288752 (but it doesn't show up on the website when I type it in).
It may be different from westend's, since mine cost...
Cool. :D
I'd already gone to the website to confirm that I could get the 2 rebate forms myself, but I wanted to make sure that:
a) There was nowhere that said I couldn't get the rebates due to PM
b) The rebate forms printed with the receipt weren't inherently more "valid" than the online...
Pricematching doesn't revoke your ability to submit the rebate, does it?
I pricematched the JumpDrive to the RS flyer without incident, but when it printed out the rebate forms, the customer service rep didn't give them to me. She said that I got the $30 rebate as an "instant" due to the...
K-squared:
Thanks for the links, I had seen the Toms link myself before when trying to figure this mess out. Admittedly, some of the stories I was reading were old (July timeframe), but given that this board has been around for longer than that, I am still concerned...
K-Squared:
I did some further reading on this after posting, and I would also favor it NOT being supported. While the 478 pin slot will still work, apparently the Prescotts use more power than originally specified, and most boards don't have the power to supply to the CPU.
Silly question, but are the new Prescott based CPUs going to be compatible with this motherboard/chipset? I was thinking of getting the 2.4Ghz version of this, and potentially upgrading to a new processor later down the road. Wasn't sure if I'd be limited to a Northwood based processor with...
