Phanteks PH-TC14PE vs Noctua NH D14

From the reviews I've seen, the Phanteks usually comes out on top marginally. If you're after that last degree on air, grab yourself the Phanteks, it's the king right now.

Turn PC off every night or leave it on 24/7? (Discussion)

my fanless leechbox / home server is on 24/7. gaming PC and the even the fileserver only comes on when needed. it would be pointless to leave them on 24/7 wasting electricity and making noise. while they're not loud i'm just a huge fan of silent computing.

What's your favorite video card?

GF4 Ti4600. Lasted longer than any other video card I've ever owned for actual use. Partially thanks to the FX series being so awful.

**Official** Video Card Drivers Rev2

is anyone noticing a reduction in AA quality when using 77.77 as opposed to 77.56 quadro drivers? the official 77.77 geforce drivers has noticablly more jaggies running 8x AA as opposed to 77.56 which render almost a perfectly smooth surface. video card is a 6800 Ultra running 430/1200...

512 v 1gb RAM

512 v 1gig is so yesterday, it should become 1gb vs 2gb sometime soon.

Seeking someone's successful experience re OCZ latencies

2.5,4,3,6 the ram can handle pretty easily. 2.5,3,3,6 would be better but probabaly won't work.

P4@1.4ghz

depends on whether or not the 1.4 is socket 423 or 478. if 478 then u can pick up a cheap 478 mobo no problems. i can't remember, but isn't the first 478 P4 was a 1.5ghz, if it's a 423 CPU then you may need to track down a old MB or sell it and get that fry's deal.

What do you REALLY get from OCing?

running UT04 max details with the exception of the shadows function @ 1280x1024x32 on a ti4200? skipped a whole generation of video cards and still going strong. Doom 3 will change that though i suspect. anyway, i too have a 3.0C and i've tried it @ stock and @ 3.7, the difference in...

CPU dilemma

depends. if u run a software firewall, got a P2P program downloading in the background, nortan, other misc software and you are playing UT2004 with winamp playing MP3s in the background and occasionally alt tabbing out to reply to a msg on MSN messenger... yes HT does boost performance.

How come CPU-Z only recognizes my RAM as 1024 MB DDR-SDRAM and won't give me brand/info for each individual stick?

open it up. just check if the two Mushkin sticks are still in there.

no idea. it is possible. the 30 caps are just EE's that didn't quite make it. there is 3.2EE and 3.4EE, theoretically there could even be 30 cap 3.4C's out there

6800 LE benchmarks

meh. like there aren't other places that make that common mistake of putting FX in front of 6800. whether or not the source is reputable is not, it seems there may very well be a 6800LE in the near future. more speculation

speed: 315/690 day in day out. running this speed using edited bios. benchmarks at 333/747 -> 345/755 on a cold day with a fan card under it.

Is Overclocking worth it?

it's not for everyone. sure there is some testing involved but pushing it further and testing to see how much higher it can go is where the fun is at. it doesn't take long if you test it minimalistically, troubleshooting with reduced error factors everytime, if something goes wrong and you need...

LCD Vs. CRT

LCD gaming IQ looks better IMO. although, without low response time to back it up, it's not so good. 12ms 172X was what I splurged on after trying a BenQ 737S-D with 16ms response time.

RAM Timings VS Speed

the point is to run ram and fsb @ 1:1 ratio. if you're not overclocking, the faster ram will offer absolutly no benefits to u. also, timings and speed both matter. 3448 @ 1:1 can be slower than 2226 @ 5:4 on P4 setups. timings matter even less on a A64 rig. so spend wisely...

well prescotts were meant to run high frequencies, i wouldn't worry much about the temps too much if you got good cooling. nice buy.

an impossible task?

yep. after some testing this morning. the MB wasn't stable at all. tried to install XP but it often locked up on loading files. tried a hard drive with win98 already present, blue screened like expected... refund or RMA? not a chance in hell. he didn't even bring back the stock intel HSF...

a rather clueless person brought a motherboard back to the store. he complained that it was unstable and he gets the blue screen of death. he was quite sure of himself that it was the MB's fault... so i take it outta the anti static bag and find the CPU socket was filled with thermal paste...
