Any laptops with the 1.2Ghz ULV Centrino out yet?

By non-removeable do you mean soldered onto the motherboard? If so, aren't the ULV cpus already soldered on? I know they are on the IBM X series.

IBM fills the spot except for gaming... Depending on the model, it MIGHT be able to play warcraft 3 smoothly (aim for at least 64mb radeon 9600)

Go with the I-Book. In this comparison, it beats the IBM. It's slower processor-wise, but everything else pretty much beats the IBM. :D

IBM is king. I think you know that already. :) About the operating system, it's really just a matter of preference. Both are pretty stable (as stable as you can get for something from M$).

what is celeron M??

Okay, some people are confused here. The Celeron-M in this discussion is the BANIAS/DOTHAN derived one. Depending on which one you get, it will have either 1mb cache or 512k (dothan and banias derived, respectively). NOT the pentium-4 derived celeron MOBILE or the Celeron D! Understood? Good...

MP3 Player recommendation?

The most durable players are flash players because they have no moving parts. But, they are quite expensive. I have the IRiver IHP-795 (512mb) and it was 200 bucks. It was worth it, though. The features are great, the audio is great, and its durable. Also, 40 hours on a SINGLE AA is awesome...

Terrible battery life on new laptop...

The reason why his battery life is so low is because of 3 *main* reasons. 1) Mobility Radeon 9700 2) P4 3.2 3) EIGHT CELL LI-ION! gah! I think you should try to get a bigger capacity battery. If you can't, you should just not use the battery. Or if you really want to, you can return it...

d400 vs. d600 vs. t42

Justin216, the build quality is not "much, much higher" than the IBM. It's a Latitude. IBM > Latitude > Inspiron. A more accurate comparison would be obtained by taking out the "much"s. It's better built than the Latitude, but not extremely better. Still, I would go for the IBM. The keyboard...

Want a laptop that will be fast for...

$1000 is far off. Even 600 is kinda pushing it. I'm guessing that the processor is a celeron, so that laptop would be around 700-800 new. Factor in the fact that its been used (depending on how long), and its down to about 550 max.

Laptop my arse

The only good thing about that laptop is 120 gb HD. I wasn't even aware that those existed! The vid card sucks (I'm assuming that the 5700 is as crappy as the 5650) and the ram is slow. DDR333 on a desktop replacement? Give me a break. The only question now is do you want to return it?

Is there a full size laptop that is light?

There are plenty. Basically any system with the Pentium-M processor will be light. 6 lbs or less, usually.

Compaq Presario 2500 Just won't turn on

If worse comes to worse, he can take out the HD and use an enclosure. Then its just a matter of accessing the files via another computer. I doubt this is a hard drive problem. I think its an overheating problem.
