Did your 'brand new' OEM Athlon 64 look like this?

Hmmm, it looks like mine did after I put the HSF on it for a test fit and took it off. It really does look like thermal paste residue to me. When you take your HSf off just take a towel or something and wipe off the thermal paste, and see if it doesn't look the same.

Help quick question

A cross over cable connects 2 computers via peer to peer. A straight or twisted pair cable is what you need. A twisted pair is suppose to help with line interference and data jumping lines. There ya go, description in a nut sahell.

Best cpu thermal compound for an AMD mobile barton?

If your using ceramique and you pull your CPU out of socket, then maybe you shouldn't be inside the computer anyways. If there any resistance when you pull the HSF off you should immediately stop, twist and slide. You could virtually do the same thing with the stock HSF that comes paired in...

Well the frames per second where exactly the same for each CPU, but they did not vary much, but yes the advantage goes to the A64. It just flat out crunches all the info faster. Your right about he video card, no need to upgrade it yet. Unless he wants to play Doom3 or Far Cry. BTW Americas...

Ceramique is probably the best thermal compound you will find, and yes you will see a decrease in temps. As for taking off the old compound, the rubbing alcohol leaves residue behind. Use 99% isopropyl alcohol on HS and cpu. You may have to ask your local pharmacist for it, they usually keep it...

Use a credit card to get most of the compound off to begin with.(much easier and safer) No need in worrying about scratching your new HS. DO NOT use rubbing alcohol, only use the highest % isopropyl alcohol you can find. I found 91% at wally world, or ask the pharmcist, He/She may have 99%...

Reserator vs Koolance EXOS

As far as the reserator goes, it cools about the same as high end Air cooling. Not much difference. The exos will cool a lot better, especially if you are going to OC. As I would not try to cool more than cpu and NB with it. Link Try this option first, they have many different setups available...

is a palomino xp2000 tottally useless for the O/C

My 1700+ Palamino is doing 1538Mhz (1466 stock) at 1.6v. I have had it higher, just can't remember the exact MHz. (stable as well) I remember CPU-Z seeing a 1900+ with a fsb of 288. BTW this one is still locked!!!

I OCed my mem and cpu But what do I use to OC my ATI 9800pro??

Go with Omega drivers at www.omegacorner.com. It comes with radlinker already installed. You will have less problems out of these drivers.

From what I can tell, you have a 10/100/1000 mb onboard lan. So it will be fine. As they all use standard RJ45 connection. It just looks funny, because the shroud is cut different.

For now its good, yes. He is looking to overclock though. Not saying he needs the 92mm Tornado, just letting him know it was available. I have mine coupled with the panaflo 92mm.

333 mhz Bartons

You can upgrade the processor to a 333 Mhz Barton, it will only run at 266. With out OCing of course. So basically it will nullify the 333Mhz performance you were seeking.

Memory Timing question for overclocking...

You would really only see a performance boost in benchies. Just nonaseconds in real world terms. Its just better stablity. But if you already OC'd to 3200+ and nice load temps, then you've prolly reached the stabilty wall.

You may want to reapply Thermal compound, since it has been 1.5 years. If it has a thermal pad scrape it off. I used a credit card to get it off, Thus not scratching the HS. Use high purity alcohol to clean HS and core with. Use a lint free towel or lens cleaning cloth to absorb the alcohol and...

Solution to loss of video signal?

OK, so you've swapped out PSU and locked the AGP. Just a few suggestions: Bump the vcore again. Try running your benchies. If it fails again, try bumping the vdimm, I wouldn't recommend going over 2.8. If it fails at this level, then try reinstalling the VGA cooler again. Just an after...

I had read a similar post somewhere else ( can't remember which one, since I read a hundred threads a day) He was told that the vcore may be to low and to bump it up slightly. Lower vcore defaulting the processor back. Only other thing I can think of, update your bios. Use someone elses machine...

Memory Timing question for overclocking...

Most people I have communicated with try for 2-2-2-5 or 2-2-2-6. The tighter the better(in most cases) If you feel you have reached a wall try loosening them up a bit. But if you set memory to manual and change the timings and it doesn't boot. My suggestion would be to add some voltage to the vdimm.

The A7N8X-E Deluxe whatever from newegg.com doesn't say it comes with the nForce SoundStorm, why?

Outlook won't remove emails from outbox - Resending message

I am actually having the same problem with my Outlook as well. Microsoft says you have to manually change the mtu on your router to get the messages through. I am going to try and zip em to try and get rid of them, not sure at this point if there is a cure with out a clean install.

I need pros and cons to buying memory for OCing

I am not a wiz at math, but I think your algebraic equation is stating that the Mushkin 2-2-2 is greater than the XMS and XMS is equal to the Hyper x? Sooooo the Mushkin should be my top choice. Am I correct in assuming this? BTW on the Mushkin website they want $400 for a gig of 2-2-2. Newegg...

Not so much the overclocking I am worried about. I play a lot of FPS games online and I want a rock solid computer. I play for hours on end, so I need a mobo that can handle this kind of stress. I figured with all the added power this Mobo had, it would be great for what I want to use it for.
