What's the difference between XP SP1 and SP1a?

Depends. If you want a crippled version of Java that will work with IE and such, use the SP1 that includes the MS Java VM. If you want a real Java VM, use SP1a and then download the JRE from Sun.

NTLDR...its missing -_-

I had a similiar issue happen... and after trying everything I could find on the net and then some... I ended up just having to do a format with the driver manufactuer's utility and starting all over from scratch :(

WinXP Problem - Explorer.exe

I enabled Classic Folders awhile ago when I searched on the net for this very problem. Indeed, it seemed to fix it. It used to happen fairly regularly (say 75% of the time) ... now it just happens infrequently. I'll look into the registry key you provided a bit more and see if that helps. Thanks!

I'm having this odd problem every now and then with my computer, running WinXP SP1 w/all necessary updates. I've run virus scanners and Adaware and come up with nothing funky. I "seem" to have narrowed it down to running DivX movies via Windows Media Player, but it doesn't alway reproduce...

How do I default Install programmes to the D: drive under XP

Dunno about the first, but you can easily set the My Documents folder anywhere you like. Right click the My Documents folder on the desktop and then move... and navigate to where you want it.

Nero prob: Can't get burn speed back up to 40x

Latest version of Nero? Download and try that ... I think its upto .54 12X sounds like the rewriteable cd speeds, but I dunno....

Restoring Pavilion 8720

You can still install the software thats on the HP Restore disks ... actually you can install them on any pc. They generally are just zipped up... it can be a pain to find them, as they aren't named except by some weird numbering schemes, but I used it to install Quicken on my parents HP...

AGP disabled?

I'm not sure what's going on ... AGP is enabled in BIOS. Using ATI 3.9 drivers, my 9600 Pro showed that it was running at 4X AGP bus speed in the control panel. Installed ATI 3.10 drivers, and it now shows that AGP bus is off? I'm not noticing much of a difference benchmark between the two...

how to use hp winxp system recovery on formatted drive?

When you formatted the drive, its possible that you over wrote the hidden partition, which means you are screwed unless you have the CDs (which you have to pay for). I believe you arent supposed to reformat when you want to "reformat" and reload everything. You should have started the HP...

How to upgrade my bios from a CD-RW?

Make it a bootable DOS CD ... and be sure the program is on there as well. Simple to make a boot CD with various CD programs like Nero.

Hrm. I have a "shared documents" folder, but no "documents" folder in that particular directory. And if you are the admin of that PC, you should have access, by default, to every single file on their. Hence the admin :) But what the previous poster said should give you access if you don't have...

Deleting "Temporary Internet Files"

Of course you can .. be warned that next time you go to a web page, you will have to download everything as there will be nothing in cache. And if cookies are deleted as well, expect to have to re-login to all your favourite websites. Ctrl-A and delete them, or go to Internet Options and delete...

Make sure buffer run is active ... and upgrade Nero. The one that comes with lite-on is usually several revisions behind ... the updates generally allowed Nero to work better with different media. See if that helps.

Pretty sure the CD writer program that comes with WinXp won't make bootable CDs. For that, you need an actual CD writing program.
