If the bios is messed up most likely everything after will be too.
Flashing is done to correct for newer hardware (aka 48bit drives
newer processors & operating systems like NTFS)
not a necessity unless the board manufacturer knows of a
compatibility problem with the current bios.
Did this all start with what looked like you were loosing the video properties?
If when rebooting is the bios information differing from boot to boot, does the
information in bios look scrambled or cryptic in like the wrong fonts. If so it's
your motherboard.
You do not have to re-install XP----Install new MB with devices in the same location as the old board or only
plug in the HD at first.On first boot hit F8 choose safe mode if you have SP2 installed XP will install the drivers.
After that boot normal the check control panel and install new...

Intel chipsets are JUNK. Try something that will last
like M-boards with VIA chip sets. No they are not
blazing fast but are usually much less in price and
have proven very reliable with Intel processors. Ever
notice that ALL Amd boards cost less...
