ASUS A8N SLI mobo temp question

I'm a bit perplexed by my temp readouts: CPU temp: 35 deg C MOBO temp: 36 deg C (96 deg F, ambient temp is 72 F) I have an antec P180 case with 4 120mm fans blowing (in front, out back). Where is the thermal sensor on the ASUS mobo, that it would be reading such a high temp?

15k RPM SCSI drives (working pulls): Worth it to get a controller card for my new box?

It is an older 36Z15 model drive. But even so, though its application specific for sure, I don't see how a Seagate 7200.9 drive with a 11ms average seek could outperform a 15k rpm scsi with average seek of 4ms. I'm not just a gamer, I spend all day doing content creation, photoshop-ing...

15k RPM SCSI drives (working pulls): Worth it to get a controller card for my new box?

Thanks much for this info. I see several of these cards for $40 on ebay, and it looks like this is just what I'm looking for. As long as the PCI bus is not used elsewhere, like you said it should be able to handle the throughput needed for 1 drive. I can't stand to have these drives sit in...

15k RPM SCSI drives (working pulls): Worth it to get a controller card for my new box?

Sorry, forgot to mention that these are U160 drives. The only PCIe SCSI RAID cards I've been able to find are $500+, and I'm not sure it's worth the investment...

15k RPM SCSI drives (working pulls): Worth it to get a controller card for my new box?

I've got two 15k RPM SCSI drives sitting on my desk (pulled from my 3-year-old webserver). I'd love to be able to use them somehow in my next A64 box. I'm going with an Abit A8N SLI board. Question: Is it a waste to have such screaming drives hooked up to a 32-bit PCI bus? If not, which...

Quick and dirty A64 clocking guide **UPDATE** X2 OC information!

Sorry don't mean to be OT, but would love to see some numbers to back this up. A 74GB raptor is unparalleled, unless you're going with SCSI, no?

    SCSI and RAID

I've currently got a webserver serving a php/mysql bulletinboard with two 15,000 RPM U320 SCSI drives, non RAID - one drive is OS & Apache, the other dedicated for MySQL databases. Will I benefit at all by going to a RAID1 setup with two 10k RPM drives? How about a RAID5 setup with 3 10k...

    Is distributed.net down???

For the past 16 hours I havne't been able to get any new work units into my dnet client. I just get a bunch of "connection timed out" errors as it tries to connect to multiple servers. I can't seem to access the dnet client downloads either (was going to try to download a newer client...

distributed.net "pause at CPU temp" - does it work?

In the distributed.net client there are options to shut down the client at user-defined CPU temps... Has anyone gotten this to work, or know of a source for more info? Can't seem to get it to work with my epox 8kha+/1600+ Thanks -

    Tyan Thunder K7X

I'm really looking forward to this board! I'm about to build a dual athlon server, couldn't ask for more perfect timing. I'm wondering though, does the 66mhz pci bus with the 760MPX chipset really matter in a 1U rackmount server environment? I mean, with the dual onboard scsi, onboard...

    Digital Vibrance Question

I used to use DVC on my "old" geforce3 and loved it - now I've got an ATI - is there any 3rd party software I can use to gain a similar effect? I've tried moving the color sliders around in ATI's advance color settings, but that just screws things up and doesn't increase my color saturation...

    Dual Monitor DVI Question

Sorry, not going to work. Do what I did - return the PNY and get an ATI Radeon8500LE from newegg.com - the ati's dual display support is fantastic.

    Hooray for ATI's 8500 LE!

After days of pulling out my hair with a Geforce 3 ti200 and it's funky driver/XP clashes, I took it back and got an ATI 8500 LE from newegg. For the same price as the Geforce, I get better framerates, better picture quality (using DVI), and dual display support! Plus, there's always the...

PNY Geforce 3 Ti 200 goin crazy on me...

Exactly the same thing here as far as the IE window - the video only goes beserk when dragging around an IE window (for about 10 seconds). I avoided ATI back in the day for lack of driver support, but I just ordered an 8500 - screw this Nvidia/XP crap.

    I have a Viewsonic PF790, should I replace it with a Viewsonic VA800 LCD?

I just got a Planar 17.4" LCD to replace my PS790. My eyes physically feel different (better!) looking at the LCD. I think I'm correct in saying that with any LCD you're going to lose the crispness in games - this planar has a 25ms response time. I've found that although there is a bit of...

Questions about my Visiontek Gforce GTS

Yes, you're FPS is really 99 w/o vertical sync. Turning it on limits your fps to your monitor's refresh rate (60hz). It'll look better because when your video is timing each frame with a monitor refresh, you won't get many of the artifacts.

    Planar 17.4 vs. Dell 1702FP

I wasn't aware of Dell's coupons when I paid $699 plus tax (Texas). But it was worth getting it from Dell - when my first Planar started showing signal noise right out of the box (dancing green and red pixels all over), they overnighted a replacement to me with a prepaid shipping label for the...

    Planar 17.4 vs. Dell 1702FP

I'd say get the Planar. Though you'll find some people who complain about ghosting in games, the crystal clearness of this monitor is a joy to look at. My 17.4 inch has saved my eyeballs. There's minor ghosting in RTCW, but nothing I can't get used to. Makes it more realistic even, having...

PNY Geforce 3 Ti 200 goin crazy on me...

ck1016: Glad you got yours to work with the 21.83 drivers. I'm curious about the VIA drivers - I've heard others say that the latest 4 in 1 drivers help the problem, but from what I see, the 4 in 1 drivers don't install any video-releated drivers in XP...

PNY Geforce 3 Ti 200 goin crazy on me...

PNY Geforce 3 Ti 200 goin crazy on me...

I just installed a new PNY geforce3 ti200, and it only takes 30 seconds before my system totally locks up, XP dumps the memory, and reboots. (The entire screen fills with little red squares like a checkerboard when it locks up). I know there is an issue with geforce cards and via chipsets with...

Planar 17.4 LCD flatpanel putting on a dancing pixel show???

Planar 17.4 LCD flatpanel putting on a dancing pixel show???

gunbuster: Yes, I tried the autoalign feature - no luck Jen: With an analog connection, I noticed some pretty bad ghosting in RTCW. I'm using a Geforce2 GTS-V and an athlon XP 1600+. I don't know if dreday is using DVI - I'm sure that would help things out a lot. Any input, dreday?

Planar 17.4 LCD flatpanel putting on a dancing pixel show???

I just got a 17.4" Planar from Dell. After about 5 hours of use, I'm noticing dancing pixels - little white/green/red pixels appear to dance around certain areas of the screen like bugs. This phenomanon is color specific - when I open up a color picker in windows, the pixels will only dance in...

The NEW "Official" EPoX 8KHA+ thread Update: added links, and downlods, vcore mod guide

Gregor: Two guesses: I'd guess the reason your keyboard light is on, is because of the "soft power on" feature - you can power your computer on by hitting a combo of keys (default is cntrl-F1), so of course the keyboard has to stay slightly powered to get the signal. Turn this feature off if...

New PHP MySQL board - AWESOME

Until recently, I thought FuseTalk and CF was the only way to go- then I came across VBulletin at www.vbulletin.com I'm not affiliated with them in any way, but I must say it's the best I've seen. Totally customizable templates, a UBB import feature, and very low cpu use makes this a winner...

    SWB DSL for webhosting

Would it be wise to use SWB's DSL network to host a website that delivers around 1 million page views a month (around 30GB bandwidth/month)? The pricing looks too good to be true - set up a unix box at home and pay $80 a month for 5 static ips and unlimited bandwidth. Compare that to $500+ to...
