PNY nVidia Quadro FX 500 sucks at playing compressed movies!

The problem is your NVIDIA drivers. I have the same problem with my FX 5900. The only solution I have found is to downgrade your drivers to 56.72. Then all your videos will work again. Unfortunately, it makes your shell (explorer.exe) unstable, and it will probably crash at least once a day...

Sick of KDE .. suggest a new Window Manager for X?

I prefer WindowMaker to the many others I have tried. It's fast and lean, and I like the easy configuration. And I like the NEXTSTEP look for some reason. Enlightenment is eye-candy, but I could never really get used to it. I'm not sure why. It also requires a newish machine to feel fast.

I don't see how this can be true. Why would a system ever create a symlink to /dev/null? At least on one of my Linux systems using bash, I cannot even create a symlink with the name of an existing file; you have to delete the file before creating the link. Even if you could I don't see how...

Why don't you use Mozilla Firebird?

I do the same thing with only one click in Mozilla/Firebird. Just middle click a link, and it opens as a tab in the background... Mozilla won't do this. Of course it doesn't crash nearly as often as Opera or IE either. I almost never get a crash, and if I do, it usually seems to be related...

Unless I am mistaken, there is no support for SATA in the 2.4 kernel. There is support in 2.6, but it is still pretty rough for a lot of chipsets. Does anyone have experience using SATA drives with Linux?
