my brother has 9800pro in p4 2.8 system, i have a 5900 in a athlon 2.7 system. we both score 40's in aquamark3. i payed a considerable amount less for my system. my brother still swears by his pentium and his ati card. i swear by my athlon and my nvidia card.
the xfx 5900 i bought from newegg.com has 2.2 hynex memory. its gpu is runnings @ 450 and memory is @ 900. it is a very stable card, shows no artifacts what-so-ever and runs cool with a cheap pci slot blower under agp.
for 230$ i would go with the 5900nu. aquamark scores are better with 5900 vs 9600. if you can afford the extra $ get a 9800pro. but for 200-250$ the 5900$ is king
i was just glad nvidia reconized 3dfx by putting the 'fx' in thier product line. i dont know how much of the 3dfx core remains in nvidias company,but its obvious 3dfx has a huge appreciation and fan base to this day.
i dont belive the xfx model is any better or any worse the the bfg model i think they are on par with one another. both have 2.2 memory which in my opinion is most important. pick the one whos retail package is better for you.
generaly all 5900nu's are the same exept for the memory.make certain you buy the card with 2.2 memory onboard.some 5900's have been reported as clocked past 5950 core speeds.good luck, also steer clear of the 'lx and se' models. those models are slower core speeds and have 2.8 memory.
the ti4800se is actually slower than the ti4200, so if you are willing to stick with the same quality card buy a ti4200. those cards are around 130$. but if you wanna spend 200$ get the gfx5900 128meg card, it will bring you quite a improvement. well worth the xtra 70$ over the g4ti4200.
i would go with the ati 9700 since you aleady have the catalyst drivers on your system, and you are used to ati. the 9700 will be a huge improvement over your 8500.
