Ok i have used mixed sets of ram on Dual Xeon 5600 CPUs. Running 4 4gig sticks and 2 2gig sticks do let you run in triple channel mode But i don't know if it works like you said with the extra running as single channel memory. Im running a Lenovo D20 workstation with that configuration now...
I was not even thinking of getting any money for the resail fo the old CPUs I went ahead and ordered the new CPUs. I think this is the last upgrade for this system and will us it still as my main system till I can get a new workstation with all the new tech.
I know that this system will support the 5600 series xeon but they are way to expensive for an upgrade to spend over $1000 for a pair of chips I might as well get a new system. I was thinking but for only $200 I can almost have the increased speed and not be too poor at the same time.
Ok i have a dual Xeon system with 2 E5520 I can get a pair of Xeon X5570s for about $200 is it worth upgrading the system or should I just stick it out with the E5520. I do video editing and the rendering does task the CPUs to almost 100%. Is the upgrade a good investment? What do you guys...
Ok im looking to upgrade my dual xeon 5520 system and was wonder what 5600 series cpu would be the best bang for the buck. Anyone know what the current CPU prices are and whats available. Your input would be great.

You know I was about to ask a question like that too. I wanted to use an ATI and Nvida video card on one PC just to use 4 monitors. Has anyone ever try this. What drivers do you install first? Does it detect the both video cards? What OS would be better XP, Vista, 7? Anyone?
Ok I got a dual xeon system I am rebuilding and was going to replace the HD with a new one. What is the best IDE drive now stil availabe that I can get for it. I is currently running an old Maxtor diamondmax 9 drive that is starting to give random errors. Anyone have any thoughts on this...
I know most people here are all geekheads and always tinker with there pc's. Well have any of you had problems with your SATA cables giving you problems. I have a couple of systems running in my room and noticed that after a while the HD connected to the SATA cables start giving me problems...
ok take out one stick of ram install the os then when windows install is done add the stick of ram you took out. XP will not install with 4 gigs of ram installed. Give it a try and let me know if that worked for you

Ok i have had this board for about 4 months now and I just noticed that when using CPUZ it identifies the mobo as a P45 chipset not the P43 chipset that asus says it should have. Anyone else got this same board and noticed that.
Do you guys know that the computer waits for us more than we wait for it. Its just that if you don't have something to do it just sits there waiting for something to do. The real word gains you see on ocing is dependent on how much you can give the computer to do. If you have things that are...
seems like prices have gone up a little in the last couple of weeks. I remember getting this CPU with a combo mobo for like 89 just 2 months ago. Also the quad core combos seem to have gone up like $50 the 9400 with mobo use to be 229-249 depending on what mobo just 6 weeks ago.

That is what I am trying to get too? I know that if I set the voltage manually it does not allow the voltage to drop when it is in idle. I don't know if it only works with this mobo also. Has anyone else done any tests to see if your systems drop the voltage when it goes to idle mode? The...
an example is when the system is in idle mode the CPU is running at 6x400 or at 2.4gigs and the CPU voltage using the monitoring software or CPUZ shows that the voltage is at about 1.015v but if I run prime of do video encoding the CPU voltage goes up all the way to 1.305v. Now if I set in the...
Ok my setup to start with is an Asus P5QL-E with a Q9400. I am only overclocking the CPU to 3.2 gigs and have set the CPU Voltage to auto in the bios. I have noticed that with the voltage set to auto it scales it up as the I have enabled speedstep. It lovers the voltage to CPU when it is...
Depends on how much you want to tweak your system. As for me I went to with a Q9400 and just ran the CPU #400FSB and got it to go to 3.2 gigs from the getgo. I just stopped there If I think I need more speed then Ill tweak it more and see how much faster I can go

The frys ad has the XFX GF 8800 GTX 768MB PCI-EXPRESS video card listed as being on sale for 169.99 but if you go to there web site and order item # 5660561 you can get it for 159.99 and just pick up order at the store. Not too bad for nice card that has a lifetime warranty from XFX
Mike
I picked up a Q9400 & ECS GF7050VT-M mobo cpu combo the other day at frys for $249.99. Also picked up an Asus P5QL-E mobo with a couple of 1 gig sticks of PC2 8500 memory. Set it up and set the FSB to 400 and all other settings to auto and I get a stable 3.2G quad system running. Anyone else...
Ok is this a tray or box CPU? if its tray then I would say its a so and so deal but if its boxed CPU I would get it just to see what the thing can do
Mike
Frys has the Intel Core 2 Quad Quad-Core Processor Q9450 & ECS G31T-M Mobo combo for only $329. The CPU alone is selling on pricewatch for $315 so the mobo is a freebie. Or is the Q6600 a beter buy?
