I would lower that number to 3GB, even for gamers. Tests continously show that anything above 2 gig barely increases performance, and even less gains noted above 3GB. Of course always will be some exceptions, but those users already know who they are.

The problem with that would be the 15.6" version. The GPU combo would need some serious cooling. In a 17", it would still be hot and loud, but in a 15.6"? Nothing against nvidia, but a similar performing ATi (like the 5850) would use 1/3 less power, and might be better suited to the smaller...

if I was looking for a 17" gaming laptop, the Asus G73 looks like it has it all for a great price. Only 2.5 hours on the 50w GPU, but with a laptop like this, moving it regularly and running on battery for very long probably won't happen much.

Yes I measured with Killawatt, and total power used runs 45W at idle desktop screen to 74W prime95 or 3dm2005. The power supply fan barely moves air. The CPU fan 1/4" below it moves much more air. I suspect that because the CPU is taking available air, none makes it through the power supply...

Your 3dmark numbers seem correct. Perhaps your motherboard is not as good as used in some of the other benchmarks you have seen? Memory speed makes a big difference. Or, maybe since you tested in Vista, while others tested in XP or Win7? The HD 5770 performs about the same as the HD 4870...

Why use server software like WHS instead of Win7 or other OS?

How can it recover all data? If you install WHS in a 100 gig drive, then later add a 1TB drive. All important data is saved on the 1TB drive. You have 800gig, then the drive craps out. All that is left intact is the original 100 gig drive. You are saying that is enough, and no data will be lost?
